Zach was a recurring character in the 1987 TV series.
He was a young boy who was a big fan of the Ninja Turtles, so much that he wanted to be like them. In his initial appearance, he said that he was "almost fourteen". However, he appears to be preteen through the whole series.
At first, he was a nuisance to the Turtles, but he eventually proved his skills and they affectionately called him their "Fifth Turtle".
He has an older brother named Walt, who picks on him for believing that the Turtles are real. He does meet them and after proving himself to be a hero, he becomes the "Sixth Turtle". Zach's parents are apparently aware of their son's friendship with the Turtles.
He had an overactive imagination, as demonstrated in "Zach and the Alien Invaders".
His best (and possibly only) friend was a girl named Caitlin, who also wanted to be a "Turtle".
Beside Catlin, he has had a friendship with another boy his age named Eric in "Zach and Alien Invaders", with whom he swore that they will not become like other cadets.
He is also extremely ticklish as shown in the episode The Great Boldini. He was the only person unable to withstand Don Turtelli's foot tickling interrogation.
