In the 2003 TV series, Yukio Mashimi is a member of the Foot Clan.

Physical appearance[]

Yukio Mashimi is a Japanese man with straight black hair styled in a bowl cut, dark brown eyes, tan skin, and a muscular figure. He wears a red sleeveless kimono-like jacket with dark red trim, grey wraps around his calves, dark brown pants, and dark brown wristbands.

Personality[]

Mashimi prioritizes his and Hamato Yoshi's survival over ethics while in poverty. Once Mashimi is consistently unfavored by the Guardians unlike Yoshi, he is overcome by envy. Already resenting that Tang Shen and Yoshi were lovers instead of him and Shen prior to their involvement with the Guardians, the compounded negativity spurs Mashimi to become violent and spiteful.

History[]

Early life[]

During the early 1960s, it was not uncommon for Japanese orphans to beg for food and money as the country recovered from its Second World War defeat. One day as preteens, the orphaned Mashimi and his best friend Yoshi picked up a 5 yen coin that fell from a man as he walked by. Mashimi was intent on spending it, but Yoshi returned it. Seeing such kindness, the man, known as the Ancient One, told them they could have the coin if they could snatch it from his hand. Mashimi was unsuccessful; Yoshi was. They were then invited to the Ancient One's home, fed, received ninjutsu training, and raised as the Ancient One's own sons. Mashimi was emotionally close to Yoshi during this time and they even fell in love with the same girl, Shen, who was also an adoptee of the Ancient One. He sought to kill a rat that had found his way into the kitchen, but he instead became the family pet.

Fractured[]

During his adulthood and while in the city walking with Shen, Mashimi and Yoshi noticed a man being harassed by a group of ninja (they soon learned it was the Foot Ninja) and helped him. But discovered his arm was mechanical. The man, Mortu, offered them the chance to join the Guardians or be left with the strange mystery; they chose the former but the Ancient One disapproved, stating Mashimi and Yoshi's mental training was underdeveloped. But as men, they made the decision on their own join the Guardians. However, Mashimi wasn't considered for promotion while Yoshi became the highest rank known as Guardian Prime.

Betrayal[]

Mashimi's mounting envy of Yoshi's romance and prestige resulted in him growing distant from Yoshi. At the sight of the couple's overt affection while saying their goodbyes as Yoshi prepared to travel to the Guardians' base, something in Mashimi snapped. He impulsively murdered Shen under the rain once Yoshi left then fled the scene. Having joined the Foot Clan, he then betrayed the Utroms' location to the Shredder that same night and confronted Yoshi as the Foot raided the location, but did not disclose his murder. However, Mashimi was unware of the Utrom escape pods and they successfully escaped, stirring the Shredder's anger towards him.

Death[]

The following night, Mashimi was challenged by Yoshi to a duel at the Foot base who had since realized he murdered Shen. He was confident that he would be fighting alongside his fellow Foot, but the Shredder demanded he fight Yoshi by himself.

Mashimi failed to inflict damage on Yoshi during the battle and was instead cut by Yoshi's blade in a fatal wound, while Yoshiā€™s only sustained damage was the ripped open shirt. He asked Yoshi to forgive him as he dropped to the ground, dying from his wounds.

Very soon after Mashimiā€™s death, the Shredder orders his Foot Ninja to capture Yoshi to make him lead them to the Utromsā€™ new base, but Yoshi successfully escaped before the Foot Clan can have a chance.

Legacy[]

Mashimi plays an important role as his actions and anger thereof helped in bringing the Turtles to existence. A hungry rat who would come to be known as Hamato Splinter would have been disposed of on sight by Mashimi had Shen not intervened. His envy and betrayal started the chain of events that led Yoshi and the Utroms to flee to New York.

Abilities[]

  • Ninjutsu: Mashimi was trained in ninjutsu for several years and was able to join the Guardians.
  • Kenjutsu: Mashimi is versed in wielding katana.

Relationships[]

Family[]

  • Hamato Yoshi: Mashimi and Yoshi were best of friends and almost like brothers. Even when they reached adulthood, they were still together. One day, their friendship suffered a strain after they both fell in love with one woman, Tang Shen, who chose Yoshi over Mashimi, much to Mashimiā€™s displeasure and jealousy. After Yoshi and Mashimi became the Guardians of the Utroms, Mashimiā€™s love for Yoshi started to disappear when he was promoted, while Mashimi was deprived from this promotion. When Mashimi saw Yoshiā€™s affection towards Tang Shen growing, Mashimi finally snapped and in fit of jealous rage, Mashimi impulsively murdered Shen, much to the Ancient Oneā€™s despair. Mashimi betrayed the Utroms to the Foot Clan and openly expressed his disgust and hatred towards Yoshi, selfishly claiming that he took everything from him. When Yoshi found out that Mashimi killed Shen, Yoshi started to see Mashimi as an enemy and fought him to the mortal duel. Yoshi came out as a victor and Mashimi was stricken with fatal wound. Despite his newfound hate towards Yoshi, Mashimi apologizes to Yoshi for his previous betrayal and resentment towards him, before falling to the ground and passing away from his wounds.
  • Tang Shen: Mashimi, like Yoshi, fell in love with Shen and even considered her a member of the family. However, when Shen loved only Yoshi, Mashimi was jealous at Yoshi and Shen. Mashimi finally snapped when he saw Yoshi and Shen together and when Yoshi left to see the Guardians, Mashimi used this as an opportunity to confront Shen. Shen was surprised to see Mashimi, but when Mashimi, with rage in his eyes, glared at her, Shen looks worried, then Mashimi mercilessly murdered her.
