Vitor Sousa is a high-level Brazilian gangster and the former best friend of Xever Montes when they were children. He appears exclusively in the New Animated Adventures issue #5.
History[]
Vitor and Xever grew up as street urchins in São Paulo, Brazil, working together to steal in order to survive. Vitor claimed that Xever had no ambitions and would likely remain in his position forever, whereas Vitor wanted to become something bigger. In order to curry favor with the boys' rivals, Vitor tipped off the police when Xever went to steal the briefcase of traveling Japanese businessman Oroku Saki. While Vitor rode his ambition to the top, Saki bailed out Xever and took him in, inducting him into the criminal organization he secretly led, the Foot Clan.
One day, Xever, now a mutant fish, learned that Vitor was to be aboard a cruise ship in the New York area. Xever attacked the ship, looking for revenge on Vitor, as not only did he give him up to the police, but his actions led to Xever's eventual mutation. While fleeing Xever, Vitor encounters the Ninja Turtles, who had boarded the ship looking for Xever. He tells them about being Xever's ex-friend, but they do not fully believe him, as he tells them he is now an "upstanding businessman". When Xever arrives and fill in the blanks, the Turtles take his version of the events as likely more truthful.
Xever's attack begins to capsize the ship, and the flooded vessel only serves to make Xever at home in battle, allowing him to best the Turtles easily, until they distract him and swim off. They find Vitor clinging railing on the outside of the ship, and Leo wants to save him even if he is a "bad guy", because as "heroes", they never ignore someone in distress. Raph, however, thinks it's ridiculous to save a criminal and refuses to help, leaving Leo, Mike, and Don to the task.
When they try to save Vitor, however, he attacks them, telling them that maybe he can get back in Xever's good graces if he takes them down. During the fight, Xever arrives and says he might actually consider it if he succeeds. The three Turtles fight Vitor and Xever, and Xever taunts them that Raph has abandoned and betrayed them like Vitor did to him, but Raph had predicted that Vitor was untruthful and had gone for the Turtle Sub, grabbing Xever in its jaws and pinning him inside of the sinking cruise ship.
Vitor escaped, swimming after the cruise ship's retreating life boats. However, April later phoned in a tip to the Coast Guard, alerting them of one of Brazil's top gangsters in waters of U.S. jurisdiction, and he was apprehended.
