The Utroms are a species of small, tentacled aliens, vaguely resembling brains. This version of the alien race appear in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: IDW 20 / 20 comic. This adventure is set 20 years in the future from the current IDW issues as the Utrom Civil War rages across Earth.
Long ago the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles stopped Krang from terraforming the Earth. Now, twenty years later, Krang's dark legacy continues. The Civil War is over and the wrong side won. The Utroms plan on using the new Technodrome to terraform Europe - and then the world. The resistance includes General Sally Pride and her Pride fighters as well as the Turtles.
Donatello went in as a mediator to try to fix things with the Utroms. But the talks collapsed, the bad guys won, and Donnie was trapped behind enemy lines. He managed to get a message to his brothers telling them of a backup Technodrome and they had to destroy it or there would be death, destruction and the course of history changed. Michelangelo, Raphael, Leonardo, and Pepperoni travel to Florence, Italy to destroy the Technodrome. They are met by a contingent of Utroms, bent on taking the Turtles out of the equation.
As the Turtles are about to be overcome by the Utrom forces, Donatello arrives with Utrom resistance fighters. He tells them that he escaped and adds he’s also organized a massive breakout of political prisoners while forming them into an armed resistance. The Civil War, it seems, is not really over. Don knows the location of the Technodrome and managed to plant an explosive inside, but didn't have time to arm it. Leonardo, using his new mystic gifts, enters the Technodrome and sets off the explosion. The Turtles celebrate, thinking they have won, but an injured Utrom calls them fools. He says this Technodrome wasn’t the backup, it was a backup. All over the world, other Technodromes blast out of their hiding places. The Utrom asks if they really thought the Utroms would retreat so readily if this was the last hope for their glorious new homeworld.
The Turtles vow to battle on, with the help of the Pride fighters, the new Earth Protection Force, the Triceraton army, Harold Lilja’s robo-battalion, and more. They are spreading across Europe, hitting as many of the Technodrome sites as they can find.
