The United States National Guard is a state-based military force. It becomes part of the U.S. military's reserve components of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force when activated for federal missions.
History[]
When Mortu activates the transmat to bring the Turtles and Fugitoid back to Earth, the blinding flash, projected into space, lights up downtown and surrounding areas of New York City. The United States National guard responds and quickly surrounds the TCRI building. The guard troops work swiftly to clear the area of civilians. Secret Origins, Part 1
The National Guard bring forth a battering ram to break down the TCRI building’s entrance. They slam the battering ram against the doors, but it bounces off after barely shaking the door. The Guardsmen exchange surprised looks, and then suddenly metal shutters come down over the doors and windows all over the multi-story building. General Hedd announces that his orders are to get inside the building, so he orders all units to open fire. The National Guard fires on the building with rifles, missiles and tanks. When Hedd orders them to cease fire, all are surprised to find that the building is undamaged and remains shuttered. General Hedd then decides they are going to need some heavy ordinance. He calls for Comanche One, a military helicopter, to "knock on the front door". The helicopter fires missiles at the front entrance and when the smoke clears, there is a hole in the building. Hedd calls for his troops to move in, and Guardsmen begin entering the building. Secret Origins, Part 2
Outside, the National Guard troops have set up barricades around the TCRI building. Hedd is on the phone with the Mayor of New York City and informs him that he doesn't care about it being a media fiasco. His orders are to get into that building to investigate those flashes of light. With that, National Guardsmen storm the building. Inside, they are met by android security sentries, who shoot lasers. An injured Guardsmen is pulled out of the building by one of his team. The Guardsmen fire on the sentries with shoulder-fired missiles. They manage to destroy the sentries and progress farther into the building, much to the dismay of the Utroms. When Leonardo says they have to be warned to get out before the building implodes, it gives Raphael and Michelangelo an idea. Meanwhile, April O'Neil, posing as a reporter, with Casey Jones as her cameraman, get past the barricades to try to talk to General Hedd. His men push them back towards the barricade, and suddenly April hears Leo's voice in her earpiece. He tells her she has to get a message out to evacuate the building because it's going to self-destruct in about six minutes. April rushes back to the General to tell him that her station manager just received an urgent message from a terrorist organization stating they are going to blow up the building. He refuses to listen and has her pushed back to the barricade again. When the beam that transports the Utroms off the planet lights up the sky again, the General changes his mind and orders his men out of the building. They evacuate the building before it is completely destroyed. Secret Origins, Part 3
The National Guard later appears in the crossover special Turtles Forever, when General Hedd and his troops try in vain to counter the Utrom Shredder's attack on the city with the refitted Technodrome.
