ETURTLE BG12

The Twilight Realm is a location in Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Description[]

The Twilight Realm is seemingly a micro-g environment that is primarily green. Dark green tendrils and fragments of an unknown composition reside within it along with the massive red sphere of the Shredder's consciousness sealed with a lock.

Little is known about the Twilight Realm, but Yōkai Baron Draxum knows of it and is able to open it with relative ease. It is implied by Hamato Sho and Hamato Karai that the Twilight Realm afflicts considerable anguish on its residents, Sho describing it as "living awfully ever after" and Karai describing it as "enduring 500 years of misery". It is also stated by the Shredder that his residence within the dimension fortified him, but weakened Karai, especially her ability to utilize Hamato Ninpō ("Shreddy or Not"). Although the cause and specifics of such effects are currently unknown.

History[]

The Twilight Realm was accessed by Karai 500 years ago to trap the Shredder's consciousness and she adopted the form of a sword to eternally seal him within the dimension. His confinement in the Twilight Realm acted as a fail-safe if the scattered Kuroi Yōroi were to ever be fully reassembled, the Shredder would remain incapable of harnessing his full destructive potential.

After being revived by the Foot Clan in "Many Unhappy Returns", the Shredder uncontrollably teleported between Earth's dimension and the Twilight Realm as his consciousness was still bound to the Twilight Realm, not Earth, causing his body to repeatedly manifest and disappear.

Splinter and the Mad Dogs had Draxum open a gateway to the Twilight Realm in "Finale Part 1: E-Turtle Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" to retrieve a weapon depicted in a Hamato Clan scroll to slay the Shredder, ignorant of the fact that the sword (which was Karai herself) was never meant to be removed as doing so would release the Shredder's consciousness, granting him his full strength.
