The Turnstone is an extraterrestrial object created by the Utroms. It fell to Earth in Louisiana, near the home of Mary Bones and was found by her when she was out taking a walk.
Mary took the Turnstone into her home and soon learned that it had almost limitless power. After experimentation, Mary discovered that the Turnstone wasn't magical at all, but it was actually a device so technologically advanced that it seemed mystical. Jess Harley stole the Turnstone from her and she followed him to New York City, where she found that the Turnstone had mutated the thief into Leatherhead. Mary wondered why the Turnstone had done this, but then she met up with the Turtles through Leatherhead and understood all. Mary informs the Turtles that the Turnstone belongs to them.
Later, having taken the Turnstone back to the lair, the Turtles discover that the beings who created the device are the Utroms. Following that discovery, the Turnstone teleports all four Turtles to the Planet Utr.
