  • All we know is that it's airing on Nickelodeon, gonna be aimed towards more comedy and we'll be getting new mutants. Personally, I think this is going to be like "Spongebob Squarepants" where nothing is taken seriously and it is all just for making kids laugh. But I could be wrong, what your thoughts and opinions on this new series?

      Loading editor
    • My opinion? :

The first thing I thought when I saw you said "more comedy" and "new mutants." was : "The shell!?" (but more rude.)

I mean,I hoped it was darker, more serious, more realistic, similar to the original comic Mirage or something like that... or just NOT a crap. In fact, I hoped it wasn't in Nickelodeon 'cause I knew they were going to ruin it all.

      • Sigh* I need to make my own TMNT X(. And I don't wanna say 2K12 Series was bad,but...,definitely; It was getting (REALLY) worse since third season (and second has its "failures")
        Loading editor
    • So true, I pretty much gave up watching the show around the whole "Mutant Apocalypse" crap. But who knows? Maybe this might be a good series.

        Loading editor
    • We shall see...

It's not maybe what I expected, but I'm sure It will make me laugh once or twice.

    • I'd like to give the 2018 series a try and hope for the best. The 2012 had its good moments but in my opinion, it lost the family moments we saw in season 1, got crazy starting in season 2, then felt like it was rushed and too focused on the pairings the turtles were in . Every turtle fell instantly and it felt so expected like the girls were close to being female versions of them in some way, then some characters disappeared and they didn't die, but we don't see them again or like Pigeon Pete, they're not talked about for some reason. I feel like Nickelodeon missed some opportunities and did more video, than story. I would've liked to see it make a difference and have that the shippings were not what we expected, infact they could've mentioned it less and tried a new approach like friendship. I'm hoping the 2018 will be better than we know right now since things can still turn around, who knows?

    • I’ve been saying all along that this series deserves the benefit of the doubt. Not only has there never been a bad TMNT animated series, but the show runners are Ant Ward (supervising producer since day one of TMNT 2012) and Andy Suriano (good animator and character designer, mostly known for his Samurai Jack contributions).

The voice cast is definitely interesting. Half the turtles are voiced by African Americans, as is April (taking a leaf from Nieli’s original plans I bet), which I’m sure is going to get a few headlines if it hasn’t already. None of the main cast are also big names aside from Eric Bauza. Eric going from a slew of TMNT 2012 villains to Splinter is definitely going to be very interesting. I also know that Rob Paulson is going to be the voice director, but if this is his first crack at the job, it’s still going to be interesting.

Now all we have to do is wait to see how the animation is going to look. I know you can’t judge a book by its cover but the amount of work that goes into the animation is usually a big indicator of how much work is usually put into a series in general.

    • If such a more mature TMNT television series ever materializes, it might have to be a fan-made webisode series made without any sale, profit, crowdfunding, solicitation of donations or commercial transactions of any kind. Which means that, whatever budget it has, would have to be completely privately funded with no possibility of recouping the costs. And that's cool...if someone actually wants to do it. Even then, it would be at the mercy of the decisions of Viacom's legal department.

    • Joycelika :

Yeah, I miss those family moments, the second season was still okay, and gave (at last) to the turtles their deserved defeat... but how they managed it in the third season!?

but, ¿how did they handle their problems and troubles (psychological, spiritual, physical, etc.) in the third season? Oh, no, they didn't even do it, maybe physical, in Leo's case. But i can't say the same 'bout spiritualy; Though It seemed like they overcame... whatever they were fighting with, It didn't worked, because Raphael lost personality, Leo become more serious, conceited and boring! Mikey didn't even resolved his psychological troubles -like he should have done like in Mirage... or al least to make sense to something logical- because "he's always happy, 'cause he's Mikey." BUT NO, Brandon Auman, NO, Ant Ward, NO, Sebastian Montes, AND NO, CIRO NIELI! NO, LIFE'S NOT SO! EVERYONE HAS TROUBLES, (Ugh, this is one of the troubles with TV Series FOR KIDS)

Ah, yeah, and it seems that the only important in the series now are the couples... Oh God... i can't stand that!... and i can't stand disappearance of some characters either. And everyone knows that they're doing this just for money. The only thing i've heard 'bout 2K18 Series is this:

"Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" will feature the new adventures of Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo as they seek to discover the mystical secrets of New York City. From the tallest skyscraper to the dirtiest sewer, the Turtles will encounter new foolish mutants and fight against strange creatures as they enjoy their favorite pizza slices. Entering into mystical ninja powers that they never knew existed, the four brothers must learn to work together and navigate the dangers of the modern era and the hidden realms to complete their destiny and become a team of heroes."

      Trigger009 :

It's true, I wish it wasn't. What should happen is that there's to dividide; for kids and for adults. But they made this series intermediate, so you had to put "the warning sign" 'bout :

       HEY, KID, YOU'RE
       A LONG WAY
       FROM NICKTOONS!

Some TMNT stuff was always meant for grownups.

and It started to get bored or ridiculous for adults.

Jason Bourne Hamato and Gilgameshkun :

That's all I want, and the most difficult...

        Loading editor
    • These warning signs?
       YOU'RE NOT ON
       NICKTOONS
       ANYMORE!

Some TMNT stuff really isn't for little kids.

       HEY, KID, YOU'RE
       A LONG WAY
       FROM NICKTOONS!

Some TMNT stuff was always meant for grownups.

I wrote them a few years back, after an incident soon after I started editing Mirage articles at Turtlepedia. When I wrote about how Michelangelo and Seri "mated," I was asked not to use such explicit language ("mating" was explicit?), because children could be reading and the wiki could get complaints from their parents. I found that especially curious considering the source material was never for children, and contains all sorts of kid-unfriendly stuff. We eventually came to an agreement that we could describe adult TMNT comics in source-appropriate terms, kid-unfriendly language and most scenery included (some was too explicit for Wikia, period, which is why I had to add so many black bars to File:Bodycount violence.png and obscure the mutilated corpse in File:Mutant turtle in the morgue.png), but mature articles would have to be clearly labeled for that purpose. At first I wrote warning templates that read as awkwardly as cigarette health warnings, and as I put them up on articles, I quickly realized that they resembled "badges of shame." I didn't want to stigmatize the articles or give the wrong impression that they were like the adult section at a video rental store, so I rewrote the templates with informal language more resembling the way they appear now, as if coming from one of the more hard-boiled yet cool "big kids" (like Casey or Raphael) who spots a younger kid wandering into a party and cautions them that they may be too young to be there. And since Turtlepedia is not a ratings bureau and couldn't exactly be responsible for rating every individual comics issue or TV episode for content, we established which series delves into which level of content, and used the {{teen}} template for all the theatrical movies along with all the Archie and IDW comics and Palladium RPGs, and used the {{mature}} template for all the Mirage and Image comics. Much more recently, I extended {{mature}} to Ninjara: Seed of Destruction and its associated Archie characters when it became blatantly apparent that {{teen}} would be inadequate.

    • Exactly, I meant those ones. Ha, and no, "mated" is not explicit, children are taught by watching documentaries about animals that "mate" all the time, it's natural and one of the words more soft, in fact. And yes, My point was just that to make a series, comic, movie, etc., that completely deserved the word "good", it was totally for adults, or totally for children, but they made the mistake of not doing either one in the 2K12 series. That's why I thought It had the signs 'cause that the series was not totally for children to the point where you (before, I was referring to a "plural", I didn't know it had been only you) had to put them on.

But well, conclusion: Poor miserable series.

        Loading editor
    • I don't know why Nickelodeon put in some scenes that only implied what happened, so it was sometimes censored, or not. What was the point of adding it to the episode if its going to be censored, or not fit for children? Some reviewers of the series comment on how its showing on Sundays in the morning. Why couldn't they stick to how they had it before? It wasn't a bad plot, sure the turtles will mature, but they didn't have to base some episodes off of horror movies and other things.

It's a bit like TMNT,  except the main characters aren't brothers. The series has many story arcs, it had action and comedy TMNT 2012. There was alot of character development  and cool fight scenes.

        Loading editor
    • "Like TMNT" can mean many, many different things, because there have been very different versions of TMNT. Even "like TMNT 2012" can mean something appreciably different depending on the season. Practically every version of TMNT has action, but different versions of TMNT can vary significantly in what kinds of comedy they contain and how much.

        Loading editor
    • Like you said Angel Bridge, a lot of the TMNT episodes in Season 3 were based off of horror movies. And the Kavaxas Arc had a lot of "Ghost Busters" references.

One episode, the turtles are fighting Rahzar and Fishface in NYC streets, the next they're running for their lives from aliens in space. When you say "Like TMNT" (like you said Gilgameshkun) that can mean a lot of things.

We're not quite sure how this new series will turn out (Especially since we don't even have a promo trailer yet) but so far, I don't have a good feeling about this... :(

        Loading editor
    • Sure, that's what i hate in... whichever series. When they, the protagonists, are all okay, relax, and doing everything they have to do according to their plot, but then, when ideas are off; we just have them saveing the world!, for example.

      My humble opinion:

Season 1 and 2 are very good.

The first half of the season 3 was... very, very bad.

The second half: *Meh* Just some problems were revolved. Not really good, anyway.

Season 4... God, ¡NO! *Ehem* I mean, ¡yeah, they are saveing thw world, yuhuuuu!

Season 5 (i can't believe there's more of this): Well, i have to admit i enjoyed Lone Rat and Cubs. The rest left me speechless.

      Pfff... The 75% hasn't a good feeling :'V

        Loading editor
    • Lone Rat and Cubs was great, why couldn't the rest of the seasons after 1 and some of 2 be as good? Some things that came in the 2012 series felt like, more show than tell. Some story lines left questions, like, "Why don't we ever see April's aunt?" "Casey's family and more episodes about him?" By the way, have you seen the official images for the 2018 turtles? What do you like about them?

        Loading editor
    • In my personal opinion, they don't look so bad. Raph is the biggest which makes sense because he's tough and I like how Mikey's shade of green returns from 2003. Leo and Donnie actually look cool.

        Loading editor
    • I like all of them, though Raph and Mikey were right away great to me. Leo is good, but the smile, plus the large red markings at first didn't look so friendly and he's slimmer than I thought, but he's good.

        Loading editor
    • Joycelika: The red markings are a natural part of a red-eared slider turtle. Even the original Mirage TMNT turtles back in 1984 were also red-eared sliders, but wore red bandanas instead, and no markings were drawn underneath when they would take them off. If most versions of TMNT have involved red-eared sliders but have not shown red skin markings, then seeing the first mutant red-eared slider with red markings is going to be weird—just like how the 2012 series had teenage turtles acting like teenagers for the first time and people thought that was weird too.

        Loading editor
    • I like that he has them, what I mean is that the way they were designed, at first seemed a bit big, but I like that the red eared slider is showing. I thought the red masks might've been calling to the species name, being red. I had a design that I thought of for the turtles, were the red eared slider was showing, from their ear areas, down their necks, like the species, but looked like stripes, red stripes. I don't think its weird, only that Leo was smaller than I thought and his smile looked a bit not friendly at first, but I suppose when Leo and Raph look closer to the same build most of the time, this Leo stands out more and that can be a good thing.

    • Well, it's comin'. No idea what it entails, but it's coming at 3pm eastern time.

        Loading editor
    • I saw it and its great!

        Loading editor
    • It's better than I was fearing, but not as good as could be hoped for. Fears of TTG seem unfounded, there's some shadowy ninja stuff going on, the voice acting sounds (mostly) good.

I really hope they have some really nuanced character development for Leo, because he looks pretty much like a different person.

        Loading editor
    • OK, that was weird, but basically all my problem is Leo. Now we can only wait and see what else it can offer, right?

        Loading editor
    • The Leo problem is partly that you don't have to completely change a person's personality in order to make them not the leader. You don't have to excise all of their defining traits for that.

It's especially frustrating because the executive producers implied he might be a leader in the future, so... how much as they planning to change in-story?

        Loading editor
    • If they're planning to make him leader, just do it already. They've already ruined Leo's personality, the least they could do was give him his main role back! >:(

        Loading editor
    • I think the idea is to develop him in that direction, so I'm giving them a chance. The teaser is only that, a teaser; I'm waiting for the better picture before making judgments.

And urp, the likes/dislikes for the teaser video are about equal on youtube. That seems... excessive. Like, Ghostbusters reboot excessive.

        Loading editor
    • Really? ¿Are they really gonna make Leo leader in the future? In that case, i agree with Fishface405; ¡JUST DO IT NOW, MAN!

        Loading editor
    • I saw an interview with Ant Ward and Andy Suriano, and they sounded like him being the leader was something that would happen in time.
