The thermal device is used by Rudolph Cobrato in the 1987 cartoon episode Snakes Alive!. He places it in a nearby river, attempting to heat up the climate of Earth, producing an international tropical climate, more pleasant for snakes. Leonardo's fear of snakes prevent him from leading the Ninja Turtles' attempt to stop him.
