Synopsis[]
Karai tells the Foot Clan, including her newest recruits in Casey Jones, Clyde, Krisa, and Zodi, that they have been hired to steal a piece of highly advenced technology from Chincha Technology. As they have a tricky security system, robust security detail, and even a massive mutant whale, Scrimshaw, in place, they will not require stealth to infiltrate, and instead the present grouping of the Foot present will be utilized for their talents.
On Awashima Island, Clyde, Zodi, Casey, Karai, and Natsu cleave through the guard detail, while Bebop and Rocksteady fight Scrimshaw and Krisa works on hacking the security system. Scrimshaw, however, proves to be too much even for the Foot's brutes, until Rocksteady gets the idea to clap his hands hard enough to hit Scrimshaw with a shockwave that damages his ears. With him incapacitated, Bebop and Rocksteady overwhelm Scrimshaw and knock him out, clearing the way for the rest of the Clan to infiltrate the facility.
When they get inside, however, they encounter two cyborg ninja of the Dog Star Clan, who have already acquired the technological device and dismiss them as decoys. Casey, Natsu, and Karai attack the Dog Stars, but the former two are incapacitated and then Karai is beaten severely in front of them.
Karai wakes up in a hospital in Niigata, injured to the point where she may not ever even walk again. Toshiro comes to visit her, and despite Casey's attempts to dissuade him due to her condition, he enters her room and begins a spell he learned from the texts Oroku Saki left behind. This magic restores Karai to full health and body autonomy, but at the cost of Toshiro's life. Karai watches as her mentor lies lifelessly on the floor.
As Natsu and Casey argue once again, but are stunned to see Karai walk out of her room no worse for the wear - physically, at least. She tells them the sacrifice that Toshiro made and strengthens her resolve, as she said he paid the price for her underestimating the enemy.
Elsewhere, a Doctor Bond examines the stolen device and marvels at the advanced technology of the Utroms, stating it's perfect for the next generation of her cyborg ninja, although she wishes that current Earth tech was advanced enough to accomodate its energy output for more applications. However, her benefactor, Yoshi, states that the energy is more versatile than she might think. She asks him if it were wise to hire the Foot to act as a distraction while the Dog Stars actually retrieved the device, since now they were aware of it, but he says he actually hired them to monitor their skills, to which they have proven to him that they are no threat to him at all.
