Some TMNT stuff really isn't for little kids.

The Lessons is a backup story published in Tales of the TMNT volume 2 issue 44: The Amulet.

Characters[]

Plot[]

In their lair, Master Splinter challenges his preteen sons to an exercise to focus mind and body. Splinter holds a pebble in his hand, and whomever can snatch away the pebble will be excused from their chores for the evening.

Donatello is too slow, and he fails.

Michelangelo is off-balance, and he fails.

Leonardo tries too hard, making his intended strategy appear too obvious even before he makes his attempt, and he fails.

When it is Raphael's turn, the youngster asks what the rules are. Splinter tells him there are no rules. Without another word, Raph slaps the back of his master's hand from beneath, propelling the pebble into the air and allowing Raph to catch it.

Later, as Splinter is doing what would have been Raphael's chores, he thinks to himself how being a sensei may be harder than he thought it would be.

Trivia[]

Though the turtles were still preteens, they were not shown wearing the headscarf bandannas more characteristic of that age.
