Synopsis[]
As Master Splinter sits down to tea and a book, the power suddenly goes out. Surmising that Donatello is the culprit, he goes to see what invention has tapped out their energy this time. He was correct, and Don excuses himself to get the power running again, while Splinter wishes he'd make a useful machine like one that can make perfect sushi-grade rice or endless varieties and flavors of cheese.
Donatello returns and Splinter asks him why he's not working with Michelangelo in the "Cowabunga Carl" business together tonight. Don says that he only chauffeurs him around when he needs some extra money for parts for his inventions, such as his newest one that had thrown out the power - the Trans-Species Locator Matrix. Don explains that he can pick up brainwaves and/or energy signatures of all living things in Manhattan and map them to a grid. He intends to buy some GPS software with his next Cowabunga Carl excursion with Mike to be able to expand he matrix across the planet. He filters out the signatures of all known living platforms to that he can not only keep track of himself and his brothers (with the global component to eventually track Leonardo across his worldwide journey, but also to alert them of any further Triceraton invasions.
Splinter, however, points out a blinking light that Don did not account for. This gave Donatello the chance for "direct field observation", with Splinter agreeing to join him. They also notice its quick and erratic pattern and made the conclusion that the unknown being was flying.
The two arrive at the Empire State Building, trying to find the source of the mystery blip. After Don hikes up to the top of the building for a better view and worrying his father, suddenly they hear a sound and a large vampire bat-like creature flies up. They swoop past them a few times and grabs Splinter with their talons. Don knocks them away and hits them again, but the bat screams "Damn you!" at him and picks him up, carrying him away.
Splinter heads back to the lair, recruiting Mikey and attempting to get Raph to come with them, but he's not only gone out, but left his phone at home. They find Raph in Harlem on Donatello's device, realizing he's too far to find him and have him meet up with them.
Mike and Splinter come upon the bat's lair in the docks, where Don is trying to communicate with them. He tells them that his home is earth and asks if they understand, but only receives unintelligible noise as a reply. When the bat suddenly freaks out, Mike and Splinter attack them, with Donatello trying to get them to stop. The bat is chased off, and Donatello bemoans his inability to continue communicating with it. The only thing he managed to deduce is that the bat was excited by the prospect of returning home. The bat flies past Nightwatcher and a smiling Max Winters.
Back home, Don tries to adjust his locator matrix to weed out their biometric signatures so he can potentially find more of these beasts. He suddenly picks up thirteen unknown creatures, and tries to turn up the signal for a sharper reading, when it suddenly bursts into flame.
