 A LONG WAY
 FROM NICKTOONS!

Some TMNT stuff was always meant for grownups.

Splinter was an animal-born mutant rat who raised and trained the Ninja Turtles as both sons and students.

History[]

Splinter was the pet rat of a former Foot Clan ninja, Hamato Yoshi. After his murder at the hands of Oroku Saki, Splinter came across some mutagen and four baby turtles. This mutagen transformed them into anthropomorphic beings with enhanced skills. Having learned ninjutsu through watching his master, Splinter taught his reptillian sons the arts of martial combat. Red Skies at Dawn This eventually lead to Splinter leading an assault on the Foot compound with his sons, to enact revenge, which ended in the death of Saki. During this raid, Michelangelo had a breakdown and refused to keep fighting, and Splinter momentarily forgot himself and angrily demanded that his soft-hearted son rejoined the fight, not wanting him to meet a coward's end before realization set in, and he began to console him into recovering his composure. A truce was made between the Hamato Clan and Saki's daughter and successor, Karai. However, at some point, the truce broke down, with Karai ordering a strike on Splinter and the Turtles as they were on their way to see Casey and April to celebrate the two humans' engagement. Splinter was nearly killed, which drove Raphael into a rage that sent him tearing through the Foot Clan to Karai herself. At the end of this battle, Raphael lost his life, and Karai was left comatose. First to Fall

Splinter eventually recovered, and recruited the Purple Dragons as allies in the fight against Karai's son and successor, Hiroto. This expanded his portion of the Hamato ninja clan to a fully-fledged militia. Lost Day Special

While April, Casey, Leonardo, and Fugitoid worked on attempting to take down Baxter Stockman, Splinter and Donatello headed to the Hamato Clan encampment in Japan in an effort to reestablish the peace treaty between the clans. Hiroto arrived and it was apparent that it was an ambush, which Splinter foresaw, as he, Donatello, and the other Hamato Clan delegates had brought weapons. Despite his and the Clan's best efforts, Splinter and Donatello were killed by Hiroto's archers. Shinichiro arranged to have their bodies cremated, and kept Splinter's journal and Donatello's bo staff until Michelangelo arrived. Blood in Snow

Whether a dying dream or ascension to the afterlife, it seemed that Michelangelo finally reunited with Splinter and the rest of his family after his death. The Last Ronin
