Splinter's bedroom can only be accessed by through the dōjō. His bedroom is dark, light from the dōjō emanates into his bedroom via the ranma, and empty as most of Splinter's belongings, like his old family photograph, are in the dōjō itself. Splinter's bedroom has concrete flooring while his bed is a bare tatami. It is Japanese custom to sleep on a futon on a mat, rather than directly on the mat itself, which has a harder surface. In "I, Monster", Splinter is shown sleeping on it in his bedroom, but is also shown sleeping on it in other rooms like the dōjō and the common area. In "I, Monster", the sides of the fusuma facing Splinter's bedroom are plain, but in "The Fourfold Trap" and "The Insecta Trifecta", both sides of the fusuma have illustrations.
