Synopsis[]
The story so far: Foot Clan leader Oroku Saki, also known as the Shredder, was resurrected in the present day by his love, the immortal being known as Kitsune. Saki was defeated and killed by his former clan brother, Hamato Yoshi. Also know as the mutant Splinter. Saki was able to achieve some semblance of peace in his final moments with Splinter.
Kitsune, though, has hinted that she is not done with Saki's soul, and aims to use it to resurrect her father, the all powerful Dragon God. Saki's journey is far from over...
Trivia[]

Splinter appearing human only while kissing Shen.

Previously in Northampton, part 2, Shen reassuring Splinter that he is still her husband in any form.
- The spirit of Hamato Yoshi appears in this issue almost entirely in the physical form of Splinter, his incarnation as a mutant rat, and interacts at length with both his wife Tang Shen and clan brother Oroku Saki as Splinter except for just one panel on page 15, when, without explanation, Splinter appears in the human form of Yoshi to kiss his wife before reverting to Splinter to go help Saki. The topic of Splinter feeling self-conscious about his appearance in front of his wife was previously brought up back in the main series issue #30: Northampton, part 2, page 17, where Splinter meets the spirit of Shen for the first time since he had reincarnated as a rat. He initially expresses shame that he no longer looks like Shen's husband Yoshi, instead being in the form of a rodent, which he likens as a broken monster. But Shen treats Splinter no differently than she had ever treated Yoshi, and comforts him as a wife, loving and accepting her husband in any shape, and they continue speaking like this through page 18. In the later published Director's Cut Edition of Shredder in Hell, part 1, next to the same kiss panel, Mateus Santolouco writes in an annotation:
I'm glad this story takes place in the spiritual world so we can see Splinter and Tang Shen displaying their love without being... ahem... weird. |
- ...but it is not clear what precipitated this decision or what would have been considered weird.
