"Long live The Shredder!"
Foot Brute in End Game

The Shredder is the true main antagonist of Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and the arch-nemesis of the Ninja Turtles and Splinter.

History

Five hundred years ago, the Shredder was a madman who wore a mystic armor called the Kuroi Yōroi, which "swallowed his soul." He terrorized Japan with the Foot Clan until he was defeated by Splinter's ancestors, who dedicated themselves to making sure the armor never fell into the Foot Clan's hands again.

His exact fate is unknown. Splinter only speaks of him as being "defeated" and "banished," and indicates that reassembling the Kuroi Yōroi will cause him to return.

In "Shadow of Evil", it is revealed that the Foot Lieutenant and the Foot Brute have enlisted Baron Draxum to find the pieces of the Kuroi Yoroi. As a part of the chest piece was placed with the armor, a brief glimpse of the Shredder's face was seen.

After the Kuroi Yōroi is completed in "End Game", Baron Draxum dons the armor and the Foot Brute and Lieutenant address him as Shredder, but he rejects the title. Furthermore, due to a flaw in the armor (the Turtles' Jupiter Jim figure shoved in to cover a hole when the faceplate was used as a tea kettle), the transformation failed to complete. After Draxum was defeated and cast out of the armor, it reassembled itself, having drained Draxum of his life force.

In “Many Unhappy Returns”, It is explained by the Foot lieutenant that the armor needed Draxum’s mystic power to awaken it, and now it has absorbed his life force, the Shredder will destroy his body. When the Shredder was about to face the turtles, April and Spinter, the foot trio cheered for him, saying "shred", before he attacks them instead. It appeared that Shredder has blind rage, and is likely going on his own. The three turtles, Raph, Donnie and Mikey head on to fight him, though failed to do so as he beats them one by one. Shredder then jumps to attack Leo, Splinter, and April before teleporting unexpectedly to elsewhere.
