Shibano-sama is a character from the 1987 TV series episode "Blast from the Past". He makes a reappearance in the Saturday Morning Adventures comics and a cameo in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Ghostbusters 2 issue 2.
History[]
He was an ancient noble warrior and founder of the Foot Clan, though Hamato Koji is later assigned that status.
The Shredder uses the sacred scrolls of the Foot Clan to summon his spirit from his burial urn which is conveniently on display at the Asian-American Cultural Center.[1] Once summoned, Shredder requested that the warrior spirit teach Rocksteady and Bebop the ways of the Foot and make them invincible super ninjas.
Shibana-sama replies that only the true leader of the Foot Clan can make such a request. Shredder claims that status for himself, only to be interrupted when the Turtles proclaim that their master is the true leader. Unfortunately a gas bomb had caused Splinter to lose his memory, forcing Leonardo, Michelangelo and Donatello to withdraw with him and attempt to jog his memory.
Shibano-sama bestowed his powers upon Bebop and Rocksteady, and began teaching them how to be powerful ninja, using Raphael as a target. However, Splinter returns and declares that Shredder is an imposter, because only Splinter knows how to perform the Kur-Li Maneuver, which only the true leader knows. He does so, proving his identity.
Enraged, Shibano-sama turns on Rocksteady and Bebop, removing their powers and chasing them into the Transport Module. After that, his spirit returns to his urn.
Shibano-sama is also referenced in the episode "The Legend of Koji", though his status as the Foot Clan's founder is reworked. The Turtles and Splinter go back in time to help protect Hamato Koji from Shredder, and they assist him in searching for Shibano-sama's shrine. After taming a rampaging dragon, Hamato Koji creates his own clan based on the ninja teachings of Shibano-sama while standing in the dragon's footprint.
Saturday Morning Adventures[]
The Turtles are kidnapped by Creepy Eddie and transported to Nightmareland. If they can make it to the end of a yellow brick road before midnight, he'll send them home. If not, then they will be trapped in Nightmareland forever. Following the road, they encounter a cloaked figure blocking the bridge they need to cross. The mysterious figure tells them that they may not cross. Raphael says they don't have time for this, but he is backhanded hard and the figure throws off his cloak, revealing himself to be Shibano-sama. A Very Creepy Sequel
IDW continuity[]
Shibano makes a cameo in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Ghostbusters 2 issue 2, when Winston Zeddemore and Leonardo end up in the 1987 series' Turtle Lair. They assume Shibano to be a malicious entity and Winston blasts him with a Proton Stream.
