Summary[]
The streets of New York City during the morning rush hour are crowded with automobiles and pedestrians. A sudden attack turns the morning commute into one of pure terror. Robots flow out of the subway, firing indiscriminately at cars, buildings, traffic lights and even people. The robots issue orders for people to leave the area immediately. They smash any car they come across, sending people running for their lives. A police officer fires on one of the robots and destroys it. Infuriated, a half dozen robots come for the officer, who beats a hasty retreat.
Nearby, a sinister duo are watching the mayhem. Krang, in his android body, gloats that his new robot army is unbeatable. Shredder agrees, and says that soon the whole city will be theirs. First New York, then America and then the world, Krang boasts. Their celebration ends when the Turtles arrive and Krang shouts for the robots to trash them. Undaunted, the Turtles begin their robo-wrecking party, taking down robots left and right. Leonardo slices open a fire hydrant and the water short circuits a robot. Donatello says that at this rate, they can set up their own scrap metal business.
Shredder expresses concern that the Turtles are winning, but Krang tells him to stop being defeatist. Krang then calls for the robot reinforcements to be sent in. The Turtles see the oncoming hoard and realize that they are in trouble. Leo tells to others to start to retreat towards the sewers and Don states that “retreat” is a word Turtles hate. They have no choice though and quickly drop into the nearest manhole, much to the delight of their enemies. Safely in the sewers, the Turtles head for the lair, worried about explaining what happened to Splinter. However, he already knows, and when Leo apologizes, Splinter says it is better to leave a battle before defeat than to wait till that defeat becomes a reality.
Splinter tells them that the ‘robowar’ is far from over because he has an idea. He says that the machines must be guided from a central control unit that is in or close to the Technodrome. Leo leads the team topside again in order to search for Krang’s base. In their hiding spot near a bank building, they spot robots blasting everything in sight. Angry, Raphael wants to attack, but Leo tells him to stay out of sight and watch. Another bunch of robots go past and these are loaded down with bags and boxes filled with stolen valuables. Leo guesses they could be taking them to the Technodrome and to remain silent and follow. The next stop is the docks, where the robots enter an old warehouse. They see Bebop letting the robots in and know that if he is there, then the other geeks are as well.
The Turtles sneak up to the warehouse door and are unsurprised to see the Technodrome. Standing at a large control unit are Krang, Shredder, Bebop and Rocksteady. The robots march up to their master and begin dumping the stolen loot on the floor in front of him. Shredder proclaims that New York and all its wealth belongs to them. Leo leads the charge in, announcing that the wealth did belong to him – past tense. Krang orders Bebop to blast them, but he is a lousy shot and hits one of the robots instead.
Rocksteady threatens to bash Michaelangelo, who catches the mutant rhinoceros and tosses him into Bebop. Don baps Krang’s android body in the head, knocking him flat. Shredder gets the drop on Raph and slashes the sai out of his hands. Leo tells his brother to duck and strikes the sword out of Shredder’s hand, sending it flying directly towards the control unit. The sword embeds itself in the control unit and Krang shrieks in anger. He predicts that something unspeakably terrible is bound to happen to his robots now.
At that moment in the city, the robots all begin to explode as surprised citizens watch. Krang and Shredder watch on the still functioning control unit monitor. Mike asks Leo what they do with their captives now. Don calls out that he’s found some switched off robots inside the Technodrome. This gives Leo an idea and shortly, Don has completed repairs to the robot control unit. Leo tells him to try it out and in a moment, robots begin marching down the ramp out of the Technodrome. Rocksteady stammers a plea that the Turtles not set the robot on them. Leo agrees but says only if they promise to repair the damage they’ve caused.
With the reprogrammed robots standing watch, Krang, Shredder and his mutants sweep up the mess that they made of the city streets. One of the robots stands over Rocksteady and tells him to make his day, which makes the mutant start sweeping faster. In the warehouse, the Turtles watch the progress of the repairs on the monitor and enjoy the only hard work they want to do – eating pizza.
