[Opening sequence and theme song.]
[Episode begins inside the turtles’ lair. Raphael is seated on the couch, sai in hand, as he looks around. Michelangelo is perched on an overhead pipe with his turtle line, Leonardo hides behind a chair with his katana, and Donatello is just outside of the living room, peering in. Master Splinter is in the kitchen preparing a sushi platter.]
Splinter "An excellent job, if I do say so myself."
[He carries the tray into the living room.]
Michelangelo "Cowabunga!
Prepare to be shell-shocked, dudes."
[He leaps down in front of Splinter. Leonardo jumps out of hiding.]
Prepare to be shell-shocked, dudes."
Splinter "My pupils, perhaps you could practice your forms elsewhere."
[Donatello takes on Raphael, fighting near Splinter who ducks.]
Donatello "Gotcha! Hai!"
[The turtles are all yelling as they fight. Michelangelo falls on the coffee table and breaks it, sending pizza flying.]
Michelangelo "Oof! My pizza!"
[Master Splinter sighs and turns to leave. He steps on a slice of pizza and falls, dropping his tray of food.]
Donatello "Uh-oh."
Leonardo "Sorry, Sensei. We were just doing some freeform—"
Splinter "Yes. In the living room instead of the training room. Since you seem so full of energy, I suggest you spend it elsewhere, preferably outside."
Michelangelo "Aw, come on, Master Splinter."
Splinter "Now!"
All "Yes, sir. Right away, sir. We got it."
[They leave the lair. Elsewhere at the UT Building, a scientist works on his invention.]
Dr. Polidorius "Yes, yes. It's working! My evolution accelerator is a success! Way to go, brain."
[The machine whirrs and then the door pops open. Smoke billows out, and then a man-fish steps out of the machine.]
Dr. Polidorius "I've created the first man-fish hybrid! Ha ha ha ha!"
Ray "Who-- Who are you?"
Dr. Polidorius "I'm Dr. Polydorious, but you can call me Pop."
Ray "Pop. Who am I?"
Dr. Polidorius "A good question. I think I'll name you Ray after my second cousin on my mother's side."
Ray "You jiving me or what? That's the dumbest name I've ever heard."
Dr. Polidorius "Funny, you're not supposed to have an opinion. You're just supposed to agree with me. But no matter. The important thing is you're the first of my new race of fish people!"
Ray "What does that mean?"
Dr. Polidorius "It's fiendishly simple. You see, I feel mankind's leaving the ocean millions of years ago was a big mistake, and I intend to correct it. By setting explosive charges around the city, I can sink it below the ocean's surface and provide a place for my new race of fish people to live! That's where you come in, Ray. I'd like you to plant subterranean explosives at strategic points in the sewers. Ha ha ha ha!"
Ray "You're a real fruitcake, Pop, you know that?"
Dr. Polidorius "You must obey me. I'm your master. Together we could make it possible for decent fish to walk the streets of the city."
Ray "Sure. Why not? I've got nothing better to do."
Dr. Polidorius "Ha ha ha ha!"
[Shift to the Channel 6 news building.]
Burne Thompson "What have you got for the lead story tonight, April?"
[April is seated at her desk, looking at her computer.]
April O’Neil "Uh, two firemen rescue a kitten from a tree! No film, I'm afraid."
Thompson "That's it? We'll need something better than that!"
April "Well, I'll try somewhere else."
Thompson "Go. Go, go, go, go!"
[He leaves and April uses her turtlecom.]
April "April calling turtles!"
[The turtles are walking through the sewers.]
Donatello "Hey, it's April."
Raphael "Good. Maybe she knows if anything exciting is happening."
Leonardo "Leonardo here, April. What's up?"
April "I was hoping you could tell me. It's a slow news day."
Leonardo "Sorry, but it's pretty quiet down here, too."
Michelangelo "Whoa! Check it out!"
Donatello "Who is it? Shredder?"
Raphael "Rocksteady and Bebop?"
Leonardo "Leatherhead?"
[Michelangelo pulls a piece of paper from the water.]
Michelangelo "It's pizza! A coupon for a free pizza! What more could any turtle ask for?"
Leonardo "We'll get back to you if anything exciting happens, April."
April "Oh, well. I guess I'm off to cover the only story going on, the opening of the new Donald J. Lofty condo building."
[Underground in the sewers, Ray ties explosives to a support beam. His wrist communicator beeps.]
Dr. Polidorius "Ray, how's it going, my fine scaly friend?"
Ray "Quit bugging me, Pop. I got the first set of explosives ready."
Dr. Polidorius "Super. We make a great team, don't we?
~~Me and my turbo, swimming down the Yangtze~~ Ha ha ha ha!"
[He sings.]
~~Me and my turbo, swimming down the Yangtze~~ Ha ha ha ha!"
Ray "Knock it off. I'm gonna take a look around up top, see if anything's happening."
Dr. Polidorius "Be careful. I don't want you falling in with the wrong crowd."
[Cut to April and Vernon at the opening of the new condo building.]
April "Just what this city needs; another high-priced yuppie reservation."
Vernon "What a tacky place. I wouldn't live here if they paid me."
April "Don't worry, Vernon. They won't.
Hey, no use hiding, guys. I know you're down there.
Hello? Hello?
Whatever that is, it isn't one of the turtles."
[She hears the creak of a nearby manhole cover as it’s lifted by Ray.]
Hey, no use hiding, guys. I know you're down there.
[She removes the manhole cover.]
Hello? Hello?
[She gasps when she looks down to see Ray just before he dives into the water.]
Whatever that is, it isn't one of the turtles."
[Leonardo’s turtlecom beeps.]
Leonardo "Leonardo here."
April "Guys, I'm in the sewers following what looks like some kind of mutant. It's not Rocksteady or Bebop. Looks like it's half-man, half-fish!"
Leonardo "Okay, April. Don't do anything rash. We'll home in on your signal."
April "Don't worry about me. I can take care of myself.
Aah!"
[She bumps into Ray and he grabs her.]
Aah!"
Michelangelo "Uh-oh. Time to do the turtle boogie!"
[They run through the sewers.]
Donatello "This is where the signal came from, but April's not here."
[Leonardo spots her turtlecom on the ground.]
Leonardo "There!"
Raphael "Looks like there's definitely something fishy going on!"
[Ray carries April through the sewers. The turtles investigate.]
Donatello "Something got her. Something with scales."
Raphael "What, she got kidnapped by a weigh station?"
Leonardo "All right, let's fan out and search for her."
[They walk past explosives on a support beam without seeing them or hearing the beeping of the timer. The door opens at Dr. Polidorius’ lab and Ray enters with April. He sets her on the floor.]
Dr. Polidorius "Who's this?"
April "I'm April O'Neil of Channel 6 News!"
Dr. Polidorius "Sorry. I don't give interviews."
Ray "Caught her snooping around where I was setting the explosive. Figured I'd bring her back here."
April "Explosive? What explosive?"
Dr. Polidorius "This is an annoying development. However, I suppose I must make the best of it. After all, I need more volunteers for my hybridization experiments. Heh heh heh heh. You'll look quite lovely, my dear, after your genetic code has been combined with that of a tuna's."
[Meanwhile, the turtles continue their search.]
Leonardo "April!"
Michelangelo "This is hopeless, dudes. We've been looking for hours."
Leonardo "And we're going to keep on looking until we find her."
Raphael "You know, Leonardo, if all the sewers in this city were laid end to end—"
Leonardo "Yeah?"
Raphael "Well, it'd be a pretty ridiculous sight, but they'd probably be long enough to reach from here to the moon."
Leonardo "Thanks for sharing, Raphael."
Donatello "I think what Raphael means is that our chances of finding April in these sewers are somewhat slim."
Leonardo "I know, but we have to keep on searching."
[In his lab, Dr. Polidorius tries to coax April into the evolution accelerator.]
Dr. Polidorius "Now, my dear, if you'll just step inside the chamber, I'll have you looking fit as a flounder in no time."
April "If you don't mind, I think I'd rather make like a tree and leave."
Ray "Not so fast, lady."
April "Let go of me, fish face."
Dr. Polidorius "Put her in the chamber."
[Ray tosses April into the machine and closes the door.]
Ray "Okay. See you later."
Dr. Polidorius "Ah, there goes a good fish."
April "Let me out of here! I swear I'll never eat seafood again."
[Back out in the sewers, Ray sets more explosives. Dr. Polidorius calls to check on him.]
Dr. Polidorius "Have you got the latest batch of explosives set?"
Ray "Yeah, no sweat. You know, Pop, I been thinking. I don't wanna be part of a city full of fish people. I like my privacy."
Dr. Polidorius "Well, there's gratitude for you. I made you what you are today. If it wasn't for me, you'd likely be stuffed with crabmeat on somebody's plate."
Ray "All right, all right! I get the picture. It's done. I'm on my way back."
[The turtles are still combing the sewers.]
Michelangelo "Man, I am one tired turtle."
Raphael "Yeah. We've gone through these sewers like Michelangelo goes through pizza."
Donatello "And no sign of April. For that matter, no sign of anybody."
Raphael "Well, this isn't exactly the hot new night spot of the city."
Leonardo "Look up ahead.
It's not April. Maybe it's a sewer worker."
[They see a shadowy figure.]
It's not April. Maybe it's a sewer worker."
Donatello "Maybe. But I haven't seen too many sewer workers with fins and gills."
[They come face to face with Ray.]
Ray "Man, I thought I was ugly. I feel better now. I suppose you're looking for that snoopy reporter."
Leonardo "April O'Neil? What have you done with her?"
Ray "Just try to find out. Come on. I'll lick you with one fin behind my back."
Donatello "Boy, this guy's asking for it, you know?"
Michelangelo "And I say we give it to him!
Aah! Ohh! Boy, talk about being shell-shocked."
[Swinging his turtle line, he charges. Ray zaps him and throws him into the water.]
Aah! Ohh! Boy, talk about being shell-shocked."
Ray "Surprise, shell-backs. Pop has given me the powers of all kinds of sea life, including the electric eel."
Donatello "Oh, yeah? Well, if you're anything like a real electric eel, you'll need to recharge before you can do that again."
Leonardo "And we're not giving you the chance."
All "Turtle power!"
Ray "Think so? Check out the rest of my arsenal. How about the quills of the scorpion fish?"
[He throws dozens of quills at Leonardo, who deflects them off of his katana. He backs up as he does so and falls into the water.]
Leonardo "Yeww!"
Ray "Heads, I win. Tails, you lose."
[He whips his long tail out to grab Donatello’s bō and then flings the turtle against a wall.]
Donatello "Whoa! Oof. Ooh, he whipped me good."
Raphael "Okay, squid for brains, try these sais on for size!"
[He throws his sai at Ray, but Ray catches them.]
Ray "Right back at'cha.
It's been real, guys, but I-- I gotta split. Later."
[He throws the sais back and pins Raphael’s wrists to the wall.]
It's been real, guys, but I-- I gotta split. Later."
[He dives into the water.]
Leonardo "After him!"
[They dive in and swim after Ray. Raphael and Donatello look at each other and then swim into different tunnels, managing to cut Ray off, but he swims up to the surface, jumps high, and then dives again, getting past them. The turtles come to the surface and swim after Ray again. He dives below the surface and loses the turtles in an inky soup.]
Michelangelo "Like, where'd he go?"
Donatello "He's used ink to cloud the water, just like a squid."
Raphael "Well, it wouldn't take much. It's not exactly the clearest water in the world to start."
Michelangelo "We've gotta find out what he did with April."
Raphael "Yeah. He's probably a Pisces working for scale."
Donatello "For someone who's all wet, he sure hung us out to dry."
Leonardo "I hate to say this, but it looks like we're down the drain without a plunger."
[Return to the Lofty ceremony. Vernon is inside the Channel 6 news van talking to his boss.]
Thompson "The ceremony's about to begin. Where's April?"
Vernon "She's gone. Personally, sir, I don't think she's being very professional."
[The gathered crowd cheers as a helicopter lands on top of the condo building. Lofty exits the helicopter.]
Thompson "What's that?"
Vernon "It's Donald J. Lofty. He's here to begin the opening ceremonies."
Thompson "And my star reporter is nowhere in sight! Even my ulcers are getting ulcers! Oh! Oh! Oh-oh!"
[Cut to the UT building.]
Dr. Polidorius "In a few minutes, I'll have undone the work of millions of years of evolution.
Ha ha! No, no. Don't thank me.
Hang me for a halibut! One of the positronic circuits shorted out.
Excuse me. It'll just take a minute to fix."
[He throws the switch on the accelerator.]
Ha ha! No, no. Don't thank me.
[Something isn’t functioning.]
Hang me for a halibut! One of the positronic circuits shorted out.
[He opens the door and lets April out.]
Excuse me. It'll just take a minute to fix."
[He fiddles around inside the accelerator. April sneaks across the lab.]
April "If I can just adjust this two-way radio to the turtles' frequency."
Dr. Polidorius "What are you doing?"
April "I just thought I'd put on some music."
Dr. Polidorius "Well, forget it. It's time to fulfill your destiny as the latest of my breed of fish folk.
Ah-ah-ah. I wouldn't try it, Miss O'Neil. This isn't a water pistol.
Now, please, into the accelerator before my electrical bill goes sky-high! And now, prepare to be scaled down.
Ooh, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!"
[He grabs her arm when she starts to flee.]
Ah-ah-ah. I wouldn't try it, Miss O'Neil. This isn't a water pistol.
[He pulls a weapon on her.]
Now, please, into the accelerator before my electrical bill goes sky-high! And now, prepare to be scaled down.
[He closes her in the accelerator again.]
Ooh, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!"
[A light on the two-way radio flashes.]
Donatello "Hey, I'm getting a signal.
It's reading steady. I can home in on it real easy."
[He holds up his turtlecom.]
It's reading steady. I can home in on it real easy."
Leonardo "It must be from April."
Donatello "She must have found some transmitting device, and rigged it up to our frequencies. Talk about clever."
Michelangelo "Whoa! We should make that dudette an honorary turtle."
Donatello "Come on! Let's go!"
[At the lab, April beats on the accelerator door while Polidorius laughs.]
April "Let me out of here!"
[Dr. Polidorius is about to pull the lever when he’s interrupted.]
Michelangelo "Hold that pose, sleazoid!"
Raphael "Oh, man, not another mad scientist."
Dr. Polidorius "I'm not mad. A little peevish, maybe. I am Dr. Polidorius, and soon the entire world will know my name."
Donatello "Yeah? Maybe. But I'll bet they won't be able to spell it."
Leonardo "All right, Dr. Pollyanna."
Dr. Polidorius "That's Polidorius!"
Leonardo "Whatever. Open that new-wave refrigerator and let April out."
Dr. Polidorius "I don't think so, and neither will you if you look behind you."
Raphael "Come on, Dr. Polyester."
Dr. Polidorius "Polidorius!"
Raphael "Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, we're not gonna fall for that old trick."
Ray "Then how about this old trick?"
[He zaps them with his electricity and they hit the wall.]
All "Whoa! Ow!"
Raphael "Oh, that old trick we'll fall for every time."
Dr. Polidorius "Good work, Ray. Now to make sure they don't interfere."
[He presses a button and an overhead gadget forms an energy cage around the turtles.]
Donatello "Oh, boy. Some heroes we are."
Dr. Polidorius "Now to create the next member of my underwater breed."
Ray "Big deal."
April "Help! Help!
Aah!"
[The accelerator comes one and she’s zapped.]
Aah!"
[Polidorius opens the accelerator door. Smoke billows out and April exits. The smoke clears to reveal that she’s been transformed.]
Leonardo "April, you're a-- a fish."
April "Ohh! Aah!"
Dr. Polidorius "A gorgeous job if I do say so myself."
April "Are you kidding? I'm hideous!"
Dr. Polidorius "Nonsense. You'll be getting fan mail from dolphins in no time. And as for you four, I'll keep you around and study your genetic code. You never can tell when a new DNA helix might come in handy. Hee hee! Isn't she beautiful?"
Ray "Yeah. Swell."
Dr. Polidorius "Now go on like a good fish and finish planting your explosives."
Ray "Yeah. I'm out of here."
Donatello "Explosives? What's he doing planting explosives under the city?"
Dr. Polidorius "It's very simple and yet stunningly ingenious!
When these explosives go off, this city will be called New Atlantis! I'll repopulate it with mutated fish people. And I'll be mayor, of course."
[While he talks, a scene plays of the city sinking into the ocean.]
When these explosives go off, this city will be called New Atlantis! I'll repopulate it with mutated fish people. And I'll be mayor, of course."
Michelangelo "Not if we've got anything to say about it, bud."
Raphael "And we got lots to say about it."
[He throws a sai through the bars of the cage and it hits the electrical box. The electricity shorts out and the turtles are freed.]
Dr. Polidorius "I think it's time to beat a strategic retreat."
[He rushes to a security pad and punches in a code.]
Donatello "Hey, come back here, Dr. Polly-Wolly-Doodle."
Dr. Polidorius "That's Polidorius!"
[A pad in the floor sinks, taking Polidorius underground. Donatello jams his bō in just as the floor panel closes. He tries to pry it open.]
Donatello "Oh, we lost him. That guy is slipperier than an eel."
Leonardo "Are you okay, April?"
April "Oh, sure. I'm great. Just call me Tina Tuna."
Donatello "Don't worry. We'll find a way to change you back to a human, though personally I think you might look better with green skin and a shell."
Leonardo "It seems pretty obvious that Dr. Poly--er--unsaturated or whatever his name is means business. We've got to stop him."
[They study a map of the tunnels that’s mounted on the wall. Donatello holds a printout.]
Donatello "Yeah, and we better haul shell to do it. According to this schedule, he's gonna set off the explosives at noon."
Leonardo "We've got to disarm them. Come on. There's no time to lose."
Raphael "There never is."
[Michelangelo holds Donatello on his shoulders so the latter can disarm an explosive.]
Donatello "Ha. There. It's disarmed."
Leonardo "That makes four explosives we've disconnected."
Raphael "Well, there's still one set at the base of the new Lofty Condo."
April "It's almost noon. We'll never get there in time."
Donatello "Our only hope is to find that crazy Dr. Polytechnic."
April "Polidorius."
Donatello "Whatever. Before he uses his detonator to set off the explosive."
Raphael "Oh, sure. That'll be easy. We've only got three thousand miles of sewers to search in fifteen minutes!"
April "Wait. Maybe I can help. Dr. Polidorius has given me the powers of certain sea animals."
Raphael "Uh, I hate to burst your bubble, but that sounds more like sonar."
[She activates one of her powers.]
Donatello "Of course. Dolphins have sonar. They can track anything."
Michelangelo "Including Dr. Polyurethane?"
Raphael "Hey, why not? They do it in other fish stories."
April "Follow me!"
[The turtles burst through a locked door to enter the secret lab of Dr. Polidorius.]
Turtles "Turtle power!"
Dr. Polidorius "You've found us. I knew I should have given her the speed of a sea snail instead."
Leonardo "The jig's up, so come along quietly, Dr. Polynesia."
Dr. Polidorius "Whale them but good. I'm setting off the bomb."
Michelangelo "Prepare for a primo turtle thrashing."
[The turtles all jump on Ray.]
Ray "Yeah? Well, just check out my blowfish impression."
[He takes a deep inhale, and then blows up his entire body. The turtles are thrown off of him.]
Turtles "Whoa! Whoa!"
Dr. Polidorius "They've disarmed all my explosions except one. Still, there are worse places for my fish people to live than an underwater luxury condo."
[He throws a switch. At the ceremony, Donald J. Lofty is about to cut the ribbon.]
Vernon "Ha ha! I love it. April's missed the most explosive story of the week."
[The ground starts shaking. The crowd screams and runs.]
Crowd "Aah! Ow! Aah! Oh! Look out!"
[Water floods the street and the condo building sinks.]
Vernon "Oh! I've heard of outdoor plumbing, but this is ridiculous."
[Dr. Polidorius watches the building sink on a huge monitor.]
Dr. Polidorius "I've won! Ray and April will be the start of my new aquatic race. They can have the penthouse suite."
[April runs up and grabs him from behind.]
April "You're all washed up, Polidorius!"
Dr. Polidorius "Let me go!
You fool! You've activated the emergency floodgate.
It's water from the sinking condominiums!"
[They struggle near a control panel. April hits a switch and alarms blare.]
You fool! You've activated the emergency floodgate.
[Water starts flooding into the lab.]
It's water from the sinking condominiums!"
Leonardo "We'd better get to some nice, dry sewers, and fast. April, bring Dr. Parlez-vous."
Dr. Polidorius "It's Poli—"
[April drags him under the water. The turtles, April, and Polidorius swim in one direction. Ray swims off in another.]
Ray "Alone at last. Man, I thought they’d never leave."
[As the others swim towards the sunken condominiums, they see that Donald J. Lofty and Vernon are both underwater. April hands Polidorius off to Donatello, and then she grabs Vernon while Leonardo rescues Lofty. Michelangelo pries open the condo front doors and everyone enters. He shuts the door before too much water can enter.]
Michelangelo "Man, I'd say these condominiums are finito."
Donald J. Lofty "Oh, I'm ruined!"
Raphael "Well, look on the bright side, Mr. Lofty. They'll make a swell aquarium."
Lofty "That's it! An aquarium! I'll make a fortune! Oh, you turtles have done it again. How can I ever thank you?"
Leonardo "By getting us back to the Unbridled Technology Building."
Michelangelo "So we can make this doofus doctor turn our friend April back to normal."
[Cut to Ray, swimming in the river. He stops to address a group of fish.]
Ray "Boy, am I fatigued. Any of you guys know the way to the nearest sea bed?
Hey, come back! Was it something I said? Oh, well. It's home."
[The fish dart away.]
Hey, come back! Was it something I said? Oh, well. It's home."
[The turtles have returned to the lair to discuss the episode with Master Splinter.]
Leonardo "Good thing Dr. Polyhedron was able to use his machine to change April back to her human form."
Michelangelo "Yeah. Otherwise, she'd be out fishing for a new job right now. What do you suppose happened to old Ray?"
Leonardo "I have a feeling we haven't heard the last of him, Michelangelo."
Raphael "Hey, hey, turn it up. I wanna hear this."
[April is on television with her report.]
April "And the million-dollar condo complex built by Donald J. Lofty, which sank into the ocean earlier today, has been converted into an aquarium and underwater restaurant by the clever financier."
Raphael "You know, sometimes I think we're in the wrong business."
Leonardo "Ah, don't worry about it, Raphael."
Donatello "Yeah. He may make the bucks, but we get to be the heroes."
Michelangelo "After all, he's just a big fish in a little pond."
Turtles "Oh, I can't believe you. Ah! Give me a break! Michelangelo!"
