In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Rizzoli), Rat King is one of the few antagonists not associated with the Clan del Piede (Foot Clan). This version of Rat King is based on Rat King from the 1987 TV series.

History[]

After the Turtles see April O'Neil off on her flight to Hawaiʻi, they notice that something is going wrong at the Airport. A pilot tells Donatello that the computer that governs air traffic has gone haywire. He adds that it looks like someone deleted the operating system that makes it work. Once Splinter hears about this, he suspects that it is Shredder's doing. He sends the Turtles topside to stake out potential targets. Raffaello is assigned to the Advanced Research Institute and discovers that Rat King is behind a plot to take over all of the city's major computers, giving him control of the city. Rat King plays his flute, making rats swarm all over Raffaello. This gives Rat King a chance to escape.

Raffaello informs his family of Rat King's plot. As the Turtles try to figure out a way to defeat him, Splinter reminds them that one of Rat King's weaknesses is his attraction to a certain lady. Because April is out of town, Splinter proposes a plan to Michelangelo, who is not thrilled with the idea. Later, as the Rat King walks through another city building, one of his rats begins excitedly squeaking. Rat King goes to investigate and sees April O'Neil walking in a hallway. Rat King rushes up to tap her on the shoulder and tells her how happy he is to see her. April replies that the words are beautiful, but she says ‘never’. Rat King brings out a handful of disks from his bag and tells her that he can place at her feet what is most precious to him, the software he stole from all of the computers in the city.

Spinning around, “April”, who is actually Michelangelo in disguise, snatches the disks from his hand. Michelangelo says that it’s just what he wanted. Rat King is not pleased about the trick, but before he can do anything, ropes drop from above to entangle him. As Michelangelo finishes tying him up, Rat King shouts that they can’t do this to him. The other Turtles begin to check the disks on Donatello’s minicomputer and are soon relieved to find that all of the stolen information is there. Unfortunately, they forgot to keep an eye on Rat King, whose rats have gnawed through the ropes. Rat King runs for the exit and warns that they have not seen the last of him. They will not stop him from establishing his glorious ratocracy.
