Raptor is a common, informal name for the dinosaur family Dromaeosauridae, which includes most dinosaurs with the -raptor suffix and deinonychus.
Due to the "velociraptors" in the 1993 film Jurassic Park actually being based on deinonychus, popular concepts of most raptors, especially in fiction, are based on this portrayal, no matter what subfamily they are supposed to be in.
