The pteranodon was a flying reptile which lived in the late Cretaceous period. They were similar to birds and bats, but were actually neither. Despite popular conception, and unlike actual birds, it is not classified as a dinosaur. Its most distinctive features are the upward-projecting crest on its head and a long toothless beak.

Along with their "cousins" the pterodactyl, pteranodon frequently appear in conjunction with dinosaurs in TMNT stories.

Appearances of Pteranodon[]

Mirage[]

1987 video games[]

  • Orange and blue pteranodon appear in Turtles in Time. They drop spherical boulders in an attempt to hit the Ninja Turtles, and ferry Foot Soldiers through the air. In the Super NES version, they do not attack on the easiest difficulty.

1987 TV series[]

  • After stumbling upon a "lost world" under the Earth's crust in Turtles at the Earth's Core, the Turtles fly their Turtle Blimp down to explore. The blimp is quickly grounded by a Pteranodon. At the end of the episode, after Donatello repairs the blimp and they are preparing to leave, the Pteranodon swoops down to grab April O'Neil and carry her away.

Rizzoli comics[]

2003 TV series[]

  • When Serling accidently travels into the past in his Time Window, he is grabbed by a Pteranodon. Serling activates an electrical charge, which shocks the Pteranodon, forcing it to drop him.
