Proxima Centauri, also known as Alpha Centauri C, is currently the star nearest to the Earth's Sun in the Milky Way Galaxy. It is approximately 4.25 light years away, but with stellar drift that distance will gradually change over millions of years.
In the IDW continuity miniseries Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Ghostbusters, after the Turtles and Ghostbusters capture the god Chi-You inside a ghost trap, the Ghostbusters decide to use their newly-built teleporter to transport the ghost trap with Chi-You inside into deep space in orbit around Proxima Centauri rather than store him within their ecto-containment unit. Though Chi-You, still inside the trap, is floating in space far from Earth, he realizes that the Ghostbusters have actually sent him back to his home dimension (having not recalibrated the teleporter's dimensional configurations after sending the Turtles back home), and can again sense the faint distant presence of his Pantheon siblings back on Earth.
