Summary[]

Splinter is taking a walk through the sewer tunnels one day and begins speaking to the gathered rats. He tells them that when he was in Japan, he loved to take long walks through the rice fields. Now he has to make do with these abandoned tunnels, but with a little imagination, they’re not that bad. He says that if he closes his eyes, he can imagine he can still hear the roar of a mountain waterfall. Unfortunately, he turns to see a flood coming towards him and knows imagination has nothing to do with it. The water quickly washes over him.

Meanwhile, on the street above, a pair of city workers stare into the tunnels through an open hatch. They are wondering about the flood and decide to check if there is debris in the filter. The first worker kneels at the opening and when his partner, Gomez, asks if he sees anything, he’s told that he’d better look too. They both see an unconscious Splinter floating in the tunnel. The first worker tells Gomez to keep an eye on him while he calls Central.

Later, in the lair, Donatello runs up to Leonardo and asks if he’s seen Splinter. Leo is surprised that he hasn’t come back from his walk yet. Suddenly, April O'Neil rushes in waving a newspaper and announcing bad news. She tells them to read the special edition. The headline says “Super intelligent rats in the sewers of New York”. Leo grabs the newspaper and reads “A giant, half-drowned humanoid rat was discovered today in the city’s underground
” Raffaello exclaims that it’s definitely him. Leo continues reading, “The mysterious creature is now in the hospital, under strict surveillance!” He tosses the paper away and tells the others to move shell because they need to pull Splinter out of there immediately. Michelangelo tells him that the recovery team is ready to follow orders.

Unfortunately, even Shredder reads newspapers. Standing in the Tecnodromo with the newspaper, Shredder announces that it’s fantastic that his hated enemy is defenseless and in bad condition. He yells at Bebop and Rocksteady to wake up because they are all going to the hospital. Bebop asks if they’ll visit the big rat. Shredder says that’s right and he has a cure in mind for him.

A short while later, April rushes up to the nurse at the hospital emergency entrance and shouts for the entrance to be cleared as there is an ambulance coming. The nurse calls out a code nine. An ambulance speeds up to City Hospital, sirens blaring and personnel calling out for everyone to move away. Three of the Turtles, wearing disguises and face masks, pushes a gurney into the hospital. A nurse jumps in front of the gurney and asks what happened to him. Don replies that it’s a case of grouper in the disk, with multiple cicciosis. Leo backs him up by explaining it’s a fracture of the shell. The nurse is confused, so Don tells her to see for herself. He lifts the blanket covering Raffaello, giving her a look at him. The nurse exclaims and tells them to go ahead and hurry. As they roll away, she adds that it must be very serious, given that face.

As Raf leaps off the gurney, Don says that they did it. Raf says they are looking for the master and wants to know where he is. He peeks around the corner and sees two guards in front of a door. Raf says that judging from the surveillance, he’d say Splinter is in that room. Then Leo sees a pair of unconscious men, only in the underwear, behind a desk. He wonders if the guys at the door are the guards, who are these men? Raf says they had better take a close look at those sentinels.

He calls out to the guards, who turn out to be Bebop and Rocksteady. When Rocksteady asks what the issue is, the Turtles leap on the pair and knock them out. Meanwhile, in the room, Splinter begins to wake and wonders where he is. Shredder asks if he’s feeling better. He lifts his sword and adds that it won’t last long. Before he can strike, the Turtles enter. Mike informs “Tin Face” that in a few moments he’ll need to be hospitalized. Splinter congratulates his students on their timing, though Shredder calls them busy bodies. Don reprimands Shredder on making so much noise, reminding him they are in a hospital. Shredder wants to know what he means and Don pulls a gas canister from behind his back. As he sprays Shredder, Don says that there are a lot of useful things around, like this anesthetic gas.

The Turtles help Splinter out of bed and Leo urges the others to whisk him away before anyone notices what’s happening. Splinter thanks him and then Don asks about Shredder. He suggest removing his tonsils while the anesthesia lasts. Raf says to put him in Splinter’s bed because when he wakes up, it will be hilarious. Indeed, when Shredder wakes, he sees a trio of doctors, all with huge syringes, standing over him. He starts shouting for them to go away and leave him alone, adding that he’s terrified of injections. One of the doctors tries to cajole him by calling him a big and strong warrior. Another asks if he wasn’t a giant rat earlier.
