Synopsis[]

Following a hot tip, April Mayjune arrives for a rendezvous with Jacques le Cracques, notorious underground fugitive sponge-suit bootlegger. She is excited because she believes this could win her the Gold Buttinski – a coveted award for investigative journalism. The setting for their clandestine meeting is an old water tower in Hicktown, which April thinks is extreme but could be how Jacques has managed to evade the law.

April climbs the ladder to the water tower and peers inside, but finds the body of the murdered Jacques le Cracques. Jumping down into the water, April finds the gun used to commit the crime. Just as she picks it up, a police officer leaps into the water and places her under arrest. She tries to explain that she is a reporter as he carries her down the ladder, but he tells her to keep her big mouth shut.

As he carts her off to jail, April proceeds to give him a piece of her mind. April yells at him all of the way to the police station. The frustrated officer hands her a phone and tells her to make her phone call. April snatches the phone out of his hand and places a call to Pierrier, but gets his voice recorder. Soon Pierrier arrives home loaded down with groceries and plays the message, which is April telling him she’s been framed.

Pierrier arrives at the jail, but the old lady manning the front desk makes him leave his microphone there before he can go inside. He finally makes it to April’s jail cell and finds her sobbing. Pierrier asks her what is going on so she tells him that Jacques is dead and the police think she did it. To clarify, Pierrier asks if she means the famous sponge-suit bootlegger.

At that moment, Jacques le Cracques arrives outside the cell and tells Pierrier that he flatters him. That is when Pierrier discovers the door is locked. A flustered April says that he’s dead because she saw the body, but it turned out the corpse she saw was a sponge-suit. Jacques explains that the policeman was also a sponge-suit and April demands to know about the police car. As it turns out, the car was also a sponge-car. Pierrier asks about the old lady who took his microphone, thinking she was also a sponge-suit, but that is Jacques mother. She walks around singing into the confiscated microphone and Jacques tells her to pipe down.

April demands to know why Jacques went to all the trouble just to kidnap her. Jacques tells her that she was just bait in his plan to capture Pierrer. In France, Pierrier is very popular, in fact, he’s the most popular of all the Green-Grey Sponge-Suit Sushi Turtles. Jacques says that in France he will sell thousands of Pierrier sponge-suits.

Jacques begins trying to measure Pierrier, who struggles to avoid the measuring tape. Suddenly, Jacques hears the police telling him that they have him surrounded. He is told to release his prisoners and come out with his hands up.

Doing as he is told Jacques unlocks the cell and frees Pierrier and April. He walks outside with his hands up, only to discover that no one is there. Pierrier marches a trussed up Jacques back to civilization and holds up an instruction manual on how to throw your voice, saying that two can plan this game. Meanwhile, April has phoned her boss, Charles Pennyworth, to tell him about capturing Jacques le Cracques. When he mentions the possibility of her winning the Gold Buttinski, April pretends she never even thought of that.
