Oroku Karai was the former leader of the Foot Clan in the Ronin-verse continuity. She was the daughter of the previous leader, Oroku Saki, and mother to her successor, Oroku Hiroto.
History[]
At some point following the death of Oroku Saki and Karai's ascent to power, a tenuous treaty was brokered between the Foot Clan and the Hamato Clan. Whatever goodwill the two parties held eventually began to break down, culminating in Karai ordering an attack on the Hamatos. Her forces struck the Turtles and Splinter as they were on their way to meet Casey and April. Splinter was gravely wounded, prompting Raphael to stomp off in a fervor. Raph cleaved his way through the hordes of the Foot and came face-to-face with Karai herself. The two clashed and Karai killed Raphael by jamming a katar into his throat, leaving him to sink into the harbor. Karai passed out from blood loss, but was retrieved from the water by her loyalists. Hiroto was groomed to take her place and rose to the leadership position as she lay comatose all the while. When Michelangelo finally confronted Hiroto in his compound years later, Mike declared that Karai would be a target of his quest to end the Oroku bloodline. Declaring his hate for his mother and saying he only kept her alive all these years out of spite, Hiroto beat Mike to the punch and smashed her stasis pod open, killing her. The Last Ronin
