The Orient Express was a real life train service moving across the railroad tracks of several countries in Europe. Originally set up in 1883, its regular route was from Paris, France to Constantinople, Ottoman Empire (now Istanbul, Turkey). The path of the route was altered over the years, but the route's start and end points remained the same until 1977, when Istanbul service was discontinued and the route instead ended in Bucharest, Romania. Then in 1991, the route was shortened again to end in Budapest, Hungary. Then in 2001, the route was shortened yet again to end in Vienna, Austria. Then in 2007, the route no longer started in Paris, and the route was shortened to start in Strasbourg, France. In 2009, the Orient Express ceased operations.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles appearances

In the 1987 TV series episode Turtles on the Orient Express, the Turtles and Splinter ride the Orient Express, along with April O'Neil, Vernon Fenwick and Irma.

Meanwhile, Shredder, Bebop and Rocksteady attach a supercharger to the train, which will cause the train to accelerate faster than a jet airplane, causing the train to derail and crash over the Bosphorus into the Middle East oil fields. In turn, this will open a warp and allow Krang to bring the Technodrome from the Volcanic Asteroid to Earth.

Throughout the episode, the Turtles attempt to prevent Shredder, Bebop and Rocksteady and as the train moves from Paris towards Istanbul, the fight goes on. Both sides are thrown away from the train, but manage to get back.

At the end, the Turtles and Splinter manage to stop the train from accelerating by sending the Supercharger flying away from the train, and into outer space.
