In Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the Oozesquitoes are insect-like creatures. They are used by Baron Draxum to mutate humans into humanoid animals or animals into humanoids.
Physical appearance[]
Oozesquitoes resemble mosquitoes, except they are dark teal in color, have two pairs of legs, purple wings, purple compound eyes, and transparent abdomens that contain a dose of glowing green ooze.
History[]
At some point prior to the start of the series, Oozequitoes were engineered by Baron Draxum with the purpose of acting as a means to mutate the human population. After the Mad Dogs' violent confrontation with Draxum in "Mystic Mayhem", the Oozesquitoes, who Draxum had fed his store of ooze, were accidentally released into New York from the Hidden City as the Mad Dogs exited a mystic portal between the two locations where they then began to sting and mutate others at random.
Oozesquitoes also appeared in the Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics. In issue 0, April O'Neil had an encounter with one at work and later that day decided to find it again and destroy it. In issue 1, Draxum mutated Harvey Hokum using an Oozesquito. A flashback depicting the mutation of The Silent G's in Sound Off! part 3 had them each stung by Oozesquitoes.
Oozesquitoes reappeared in "Donnie's Gifts", shown in a flashback to Rupert Swaggart's mutation during an episode of Kondescending Kitchen.
An Oozesquito flew around Warren Stone's apartment as the cause of his mutation into an earthworm in "Newsworthy".
A horde of Oozequitoes occupied the lobby of the Grand Nexus Hotel in "Bug Busters" where the Turtles traveled to to exterminate them disguised. They tried to capture them in honey, kill them with electric wands, and capture them in technological cases. Eventually, one of them stung Stanley, transforming him into a bull. Many Oozesquitoes were later captured in Big Mama's silk, dispersed via Donatello's Bug Slapper.
Oozequitoes were mentioned by Prairie Dog in "Pizza Pit" as she expressed how grateful she and her band were for their mutation.
An Oozequito appeared in a flashback to Stanley's mutation in "Bullhop".
In "Shadow of Evil", a downed Oozesquito was partially eaten by a magpie, mutating it into anthropomorphic form.
Draxum sent a group of Oozesquitoes onto Harold in "How to Make Enemies and Bend People to Your Will" to use his following mutation as a distraction for the Turtles and the rest of the Foot Clan.
An Oozesquito appeared in "One Man's Junk" as Repo Mantis told the Turtles about Mrs. Nubbins' mutation.
An Oozesquito frozen under the snow in Bronx Park was released by a spilled thermos of hot cocoa and stung Ghostbear who had been immobilized by snow, mutating him into a bear.
Piebald ate an Oozesquito in a flashback in "Flushed, but Never Forgotten" after being separated from her family and accidentally flushed into the greater sewers. Her ingestion of the ooze turned her into a mutant.
Draxum secretly stored an Oozesquito in a jar in the Autry Cafeteria kitchen with plans to mutate Dale, however, it escaped and injected a pot of sloppy joe with ooze, resulting in the creation of Sloppy Joseph in "Mystery Meat".
Abilities[]
- Flight: Oozesquitoes have a single pair of wings that allow them to fly at relatively high speeds as shown in "Mystic Mayhem".
- Proboscis protrusion: Oozesquitoes can inject ooze into anyone they sting using their proboscis, which causes the victim to mutate. The insertion of their proboscis is typically painful.
