Oni appear in the comic bundled with the video game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash-Up. When the Turtles, Splinter, Casey, and April need to get to Tōkyō as fast as possible to save The Fugitoid from Shredder, Donatello decides it'd be fastest to use the Time Scepter. However, after their first journey with the Scepter leads them to a random jungle, the second leap does take them to Japan - but it's feudal Japan instead of modern Tōkyō. There, they are attacked by a group of samurai. However, after Raphael knocks the mask off of one, Splinter recognizes that these are no humans, but instead, oni. As the oni start wielding fire against the group, Donatello finally corrects course and they arrive where they need to be.
Other usage[]
In the Super NES version of TMNT Tournament Fighters, Karai has a super move where she transforms into a dark version of herself and spits lightning, called Dark Thunder. However, in the Japanese version of the game, it is called "Oni Henka" or "oni transformation".
During his time in feudal Japan as a benefactor for Kitsune and Oroku Saki's mutagen, Krang was known as "Tetsu-Oni", or Iron Demon, as translated in the story, owing to the metal chassis in which he rode.
