Obsolete/Transcript

This is a transcript for Obsolete, the second episode of season 6 of TMNT (2003 series).

	The episode begins inside Cody Jones’ penthouse. Cody is asleep in his bed. The sunrise sweeps across his room and when the light reaches his face, he wakes with a yawn.
Cody Jones	Ahh. Morning, Serling. Man, I had the weirdest dream. [He sits up and looks around.] Serling? [Jumping out of bed, he runs through the hall and up the stairs to the sitting room. What he sees stops him.] Whoa!
	The turtles have turned the sitting room into an obstacle course. Serling is chasing after Michelangelo.
Serling	Allow me to explain the concept to you slowly. This is the sitting room.
	He runs into furniture trying to catch Leonardo, who backflips through the air. Donatello and Raphael leap over furniture, then Raphael kicks aside a bookcase. Splinter, who has been observing, flings a pair of spoons towards Leonardo, who is doing a handstand.
Splinter	Hajime!
Serling	Oh, my!
	Serling hits the ground as the spoons fly over him. Leonardo, balanced on one hand, catches the spoons between his feet. Michelangelo lands on Serling’s back.
Michelangelo	You think this is bad, you should see us when we have weapons. [Splinter throws a rolling pin and it strikes Michelangelo, who flies backwards into stacked furniture.] Or rolling pins.
Serling	This is a disaster.
Splinter	Yes. Michelangelo should have seen that coming.
Michelangelo	Hey, look what rolled out of bed. ‘Sup, Cody?
	Serling shoves Michelangelo aside and approaches Cody.
Serling	Young Master, I tried to stop these barbarians. They have completely wrecked the room. I know you’ll want to take the appropriate action. So simply say the word.
	Cody stands for a moment with a look of surprise on his face, and then grins.
Cody	Do it again!
Serling	Oh, my circuit boards weren’t built for this.

{Opening sequence; title song}

	Inside his lab, Cody operates the controls on his time window machine, while the turtles, Splinter and Serling look on. All but Serling are wearing special goggles.
Cody	Initiating power up sequence.
Raphael	Man, I feel kinda dumb in these.
	Michelangelo walks past them on his hands. He has strapped his goggles to the back of his carapace.
Michelangelo	You gotta make them work for you, like so.
Raphael	Can we leave him here?
	Donatello is squatting next to some of the time window electronics.
Donatello	Time window looks ready, Cody.
Cody	Hold onto your shells, you’re going home.
Serling	Boy voyage, miscreants. Don’t let the time portal hit you on the way out.
	Cody activates the machine and there is a glow all around the time window as Splinter and the turtles wait to be transported. Suddenly there is an explosion and the room is filled with smoke. Everyone is coughing and the smoke starts to clear.
Michelangelo	Did he send us to Jersey maybe?
Cody	Ah! I banged my head against it a million ways, but I can’t seem to duplicate the accident that brought you to my time. [Smoke pours out of his control panel.] Sorry, guys.
Splinter	Patience precedes genius, young one.
Cody	You know, maybe if I had better stuff to work with. I mean, the equipment I have here is all junk, compared to what we could get our hands on over at O’Neil Tech.
Raphael	What’s the deal with this company of yours anyway?
Cody	O’Neil Tech? It specializes in advanced Terran technology, and I own it.
Michelangelo	Then can’t you call and have them whip up another time blender thingy?
Cody	It’s not that simple. Even though I own O’Neil Tech, I’m too young to run it. My uncle does that for me.
	The elevator door opens and Darius Dunn enters.
Darius Dunn	And how is my young ward this morning?
Cody	Uh, Uncle Darius, hi! Uh, I bet you’re wondering who…huh? [He turns, but the five mutants have vanished.] Uh, never mind, I guess.
Dunn	Let’s talk, shall we? [The pair walk through the hallway.] Cody, Constable Biggles informs me that you were out joyriding yesterday, consorting with strange aliens.
Cody	Me? Aliens?
Dunn	You are a very important boy. There are people who would take advantage of you. Why give them that chance? [They enter the artifacts room.] You know, before he passed, I made your dear father a solemn vow to protect you from the dangers of this cruel world. What would he say about your behavior were he still with us, hmm?
Cody	You’re right, Uncle Darius. I’m sorry.
Dunn	That’s my boy. Hmm. [He walks over to the display of Shredder’s armor.] I see you’re still collecting these abysmal artifacts.
Cody	Yeah! Just got some new pieces, too.
Dunn	Nothing good comes of looking back, child. Now, stay safe, stay here. I’ll be out of the office, but have Serling call if you need anything.
	He leaves the room and Cody turns back towards the armor.
Cody	Ah! [The turtles and Splinter are standing there.] You gotta show me how you do that. But first, I gotta show you O’Neil Tech.
	Michelangelo imitates Dunn.
Michelangelo	Ah, but you mustn’t go out into the cruel dangerous world. You must stay safe, stay inside.
Raphael	Aw, that Darius is a blowhard. Let’s get going.
	The group heads for the Hovershell.
Serling	Absolutely not. What about your uncle? You heard him, he said… [Raphael and Donatello pick him up.] Why… cut that out! [They carry him off.] Unhand me, you cretins!
Cody	With Uncle Darius out of the office, we can drop into O’Neil Tech, build some new pieces for the time window, and be home before lunch.
Leonardo	Coming, Master Splinter?
Splinter	No, my son. The four of you will arouse suspicion enough. Besides, it seems my favorite soap opera has survived these hundred years. I have much catching up to do.
	They bow to one another and Leonardo joins Cody and his brothers in the Hovershell. Serling comes running towards the vehicle as Donatello starts its engine.
Serling	Master Cody, don’t go! [His head starts wobbling and he grabs it.] I have a bad feeling about this.
	Zoom in to one of his eyes which shows a picture grid. Cut to Darius Dunn’s office, where he sits before a large monitor, watching the spy feed of his nephew.
Dunn	Well, well, well. You disobedient little… hmm. I fear it’s time for you to learn just how dangerous the world can be.
	He walks to another area of the room, where four large pods are situated. At a control panel, he pushes up a lever and sparks fly around the pods.
Dunn	Awaken, you obsolete things. I have a mission for you.
	The pods develop cracks, and then the creatures inside begin to punch and claw their way out. The pods then shatter, and four winged beings, the Inuwashi Gunjin, fly into the room.
Leader	What do you command?
	Cut to the Hovershell, flying through the city.
Raphael	So, your uncle never let you go out?
Cody	Well, not exactly. You know, I have computers and the best holo gaming systems and all the media feeds. [The Inuwashi Gunjin leader flies up beneath the Hovershell and attaches a device to the ship’s belly.] Serling takes care of everything else. Truth is, I never really have a reason to leave.
Donatello	Sounds really…boring.
Cody	Huh, never really bothered me bef~ore… ah!
	The Hovershell begins a free-fall, plummeting towards the city below.
Raphael	We’re going down!
All	Aah!
Raphael	Someone hit the brakes!
	The Hovershell suddenly pulls level again.
Leonardo	Nice save.
Donatello	Wasn’t me. I think something seized the controls. We’re being hovernapped.
Cody	There’s one thing we could try, an experimental feature I built into the Hovershell. [He presses a button on the side of his seat and seatbelts spring out to wrap around his body.] But we’re not supposed to do this in the air. So much for that, strap in and hang on!
	The turtles activate their seatbelts and then Cody turns the hand control that’s next to his seat. There is a puff of smoke, and then the passenger area of the Hovershell pops away from the larger body.
Cody	Yeah! We’ve disengaged. [Caterpillar treads extend from forks on the front of the Hovershell.] What’s flying now is an empty shell.
	The Hovershell lands on the street and then skids to a stop.
Raphael	Nice save, kid.
Cody	That was amazing! Ha! Is it always like this for you guys?
Raphael	Nah, usually Tuesday’s our day off.
	The Hovershell begins to move again.
Leonardo	Stay sharp. Whoever pulled that stunt may try again when they realize they only kidnapped half an empty ship.
	The Inuwashi Gunjin stand next to the empty shell portion of the Hovershell. Leader activates a communication device.
Leader	Sir, the target has evaded capture.
Dunn	Listen carefully, you incompetent glorified pigeons, I want the boy secured and I want the four whatever they are eliminated. Now, unless you want to go back into cold storage indefinitely, I suggest you develop a contingency plan.
	Leader cuts communication.
Leader	Gentlemen, perhaps the time has come to reassess our commitment to Darius Dunn.
	Cut to O’Neil Tech. The door to a lab slides open and the turtles, on either side of the doorframe, peer inside.
Raphael	All clear.
	Cody steps out.
Cody	Guys, it’s my company, remember? We don’t have to do the ‘ninja sneak’.
Leonardo	With what just happened, I think it’s best if we’re discreet. Okay?
Cody	Discreet? Uh, I hate to tell you, Leo, but I sort of called ahead.
	A young Omatran female roller skates towards the group.
Starlee Hambrath	Cody Jones. The prince himself, down from his castle, and with friends. Hi. Starlee Hambrath, O’Neil Tech intern.
Turtles	Uh, hi there.
Cody	Hey.
Leonardo	So much for discreet.
Donatello	A little young to be working with such serious technology, aren’t you?
Starlee	Girls mature faster than boys, especially girls from Omatran with five times the brain capacity.
Cody	Pretty cool, huh, guys? I knew you’d like it, seeing as how O’Neil Tech was founded by April, Casey and you, Donatello.
Donatello	I helped build all this? Whoa.
Raphael	Aw, get over yourself, genius.
Starlee	So, what’s on the menu today, boys?
Cody	Where can we something to replace this?
	He brings out a piece of machinery from his time window.
Starlee	Hmm. Come with me, guys. [She rolls over to a machine at one side of the room.] This is a transcendental lathe. It takes the user’s mental engrams and translates them into executable commands. Then the mechs go to work.
	Michelangelo and Raphael appear puzzled and look at Donatello.
Donatello	It turns your thoughts into stuff.
Both	Oh!
Starlee	You need parts for a special project. This TL can crank them out in minutes.
Raphael	Can it make ninja weapons?
Starlee	This bad boy can make the best ninja weapons you can think of.
	Suddenly the Inuwashi Gunjin come crashing through the skylight. Leonardo stands in front of Cody, while Raphael steps in front of Starlee.
Raphael	Let me guess, our would-be kidnappers. What’s the matter, hijacking half an empty Hovershell didn’t do it for ya’?
Leader	Attack!
	The Gunjin leap at the turtles. Michelangelo grabs Cody and pulls him out of the way. Leonardo struggles to hold claws away from his face and Starlee rolls away from the fight. Donatello leaps on one of the Gunjin and clings to his back.
Donatello	Totally wishing we didn’t lose our weapons right about now.
	The Gunjin runs backwards and slams Donatello against a wall, but the turtle hangs on. The Gunjin grabs a table and tries to hit Donatello. Leonardo kicks a Gunjin over his head and Raphael jumps on another one. It flies up and smashes Raphael into the ceiling. Starlee rolls by, out of control and the Gunjin leader goes to grab for her, but is himself grabbed.
Leader	What?
	Michelangelo has him by both ankles and is hanging on.
Michelangelo	What you gonna do now, tweety?
	The Leader flies up and swings his legs, flinging Michelangelo against a wall. Starlee grabs onto the TL control panel to stop herself and Cody runs over to her. The Leader lands next to them. Before he can move, Leonardo jumps down between him and the youngsters.
Leonardo	What is it you want?
Leader	Something only the boy can provide – our freedom.
	His claws light up and he swipes at Leonardo, who ducks and then kicks the Gunjin back. Behind him, a Gunjin lands by Cody, knocks Starlee down, and grabs the boy, flying away with him.
Leonardo	No!
	He starts to chase the Gunjin, but Leader lands on his shell and drives him to the ground. Then all four of the Gunjin fly out through the broken skylight with Cody in tow.
Michelangelo	Cody!
	Starlee groans and the turtles rush to help her up.
Leonardo	Are you okay?
Starlee	Yeah.
Leonardo	Does anything fly in this place?
Starlee	Hangar bay, two levels up.
Raphael	Fly? Those bird brains are gone and we got no idea where. How are we gonna…? [All of the turtles’ gauntlets light up and beep.] Hey, what’s that beeping?
	A holographic image of Serling appears above the gauntlets.
Serling	Dare I ask what happened?
Raphael	No time to play, buckethead. Cody….
Serling	Is gone. I know. He had all of your enviropacks linked by proximity beacon. [His image is replaced by a map showing a single red triangle moving through the city.] You can track him within a ten-kilometer radius.
Leonardo	Call whatever passes for the police and relay the beacon signal to them. [Serling signs off.] All right, let’s move!
Donatello	Wait! What good is following those flying freakazoids if we’re just gonna get our shells handed to us again? We need an edge, like maybe the best ninja weapons we can think of?
	Starlee rolls over to the TL controls.
Starlee	Well, then, let’s get to work.
	The turtles walk over to the lathe and Starlee activates the machine. Cut to Cody, bound by his wrists on a terrace atop the Empire State Building. The Gunjin are perched on a ledge above him. The Leader’s communicator activates.
Dunn	Well? I hope for your sake you’ve brought me good news.
Leader	Darius Dunn, the Inuwashi Gunjin are no longer under your command.
Dunn	What?
Leader	Disengage the stasis generators. Free us, or you will never see the boy again.
Dunn	Curse you! You know I need the boy alive. Where do you want to meet?
	Back at O’Neil Tech, Leonardo stands on the transcendental lathe pad. The arms point at him as Leonardo closes his eyes to concentrate. The machine scans his mind and then the lathe begins creating weapons – two swords.
Leonardo	Ha, ha! Yeah!
	He grabs the swords and springs off the pad to slash at the air. He then bows to Starlee, who laughs and claps her hands. Raphael takes his place on the pad and is scanned. The lathe creates two glowing sais.
Raphael	Oh, ho, yeah!
	He takes them and leaps away. Next is Donatello. The scan reads him and then creates an extending bō.
Donatello	Ha! All right!
	He does a handspring, tosses the staff into the air and then catches it. Suddenly there’s a flash from the lathe. Michelangelo steps out wearing an armored suit brimming with weapons.
Michelangelo	Goodbye nunchucks, hello Mikeytron 6000.
	He strikes a pose.
Starlee	Overcompensate much?
	Michelangelo takes a step forward, trips, and falls on his face.
Donatello	This is gonna end badly, isn’t it?
	Cut to the Empire State Building.
Leader	These are dark days for the Inuwashi Gunjin. [He paces in front of Cody.] Honorable soldiers forced to resort to this. Once, an age ago, we Inuwashi Gunjin were the most feared fighters in the air. Savage, glorious. But times change. Wars end. We became obsolete. [He indicates the device strapped to his chest as he leans over Cody.] Bound to these stasis devices, we have been imprisoned and manipulated like dogs. There is no place for honor in this time.
	Cody looks to the side and grins.
Cody	You wanna see honor? Watch the skies!
	Leader turns and gasps. Coming down towards him are the turtles, all but Michelangelo astride Shell Speeders. Michelangelo is jet propelled by his new battle armor.
Raphael	Ha, ha, ha! It’s ninja time!
	All three of them leap from their speeders, and Michelangelo lands his armored suit.
Michelangelo	Turtle tech armor go plus infinity!
	The Inuwashi Gunjin charge. Donatello spins his new bō, which creates a wind wall. The Gunjin smash into it and are thrown back.
Donatello	Music to my ears.
	The Gunjin attack again. Michelangelo shoots at them with his new lasers and the extending fist.
Michelangelo	This armor is awesome! This armor is incredible! [The suit begins to spark and then fall apart.] This armor is falling apart? [The Hothead Gunjin comes up behind him and growls.] You know, violence really never solves anything.
	He turns and runs past his brothers. Hothead plows into Raphael, while another Gunjin lands on Donatello’s outstretched staff. Leonardo does a backflip off the upper ledge to the terrace and runs towards Cody. Leader dives at the turtle, but Leonardo leaps over him, spins, and slices the bindings off of Cody’s wrists. He turns as Hothead lands on the terrace and attacks. Leonardo blocks a strike, and then swings up with both swords, the force slicing trenches into the concrete and flinging Hothead away. Leader swoops down and grabs Cody.
Cody	Leo!
Leader	Regroup around the boy. We must not lose him!
	Michelangelo runs to the edge of the building, leaps off, and lands on Leader’s back.
Michelangelo	Bad news, busted beak! You already did. [Leader drops Cody as Michelangelo bounces off of him. Cody hits a dilapidated railing and plunges over the side. Michelangelo grabs for him and misses.] Whoopsie!
Cody	Aah!
Michelangelo	Cody!
	Leader knocks Michelangelo aside and dives for Cody. Raphael activates a control on his gauntlet, which brings his Shell Speeder down from where it’s hovering. Raphael leaps off the building to land in the driver’s seat and then goes into a nose dive. He reaches out and snags Cody in mid-air before Leader can get to him.
Leader	Impossible!
	A limousine arrives in front of the building and Darius Dunn gets out. He ducks as Raphael flashes by overhead and then he sees Leader in pursuit. Raphael zooms down to the terrace with Cody in the seat behind him.
Raphael	A little help here, guys!
	He lands. Nearby, Donatello struggles against a Gunjin, turning and throwing him against Leader, who is swooping down to seize Cody again. They both plow into the other Gunjin. Leader starts to rise, but Leonardo pins him by holding his swords to the Gunjin’s throat.
Leonardo	Now talk. Why are you after Cody?
	Darius Dunn arrives on the terrace behind the group.
Leader	He wanted the boy under his control.
Leonardo	He?
	Dunn pulls a controller from his pocket and presses a button.
Leader	He wanted you four out of the….
	The stasis device on his chest flashes and Leader cries out in pain. His entire body is covered in a sparking blue glow, which travels along Leonardo’s swords and begins shocking him.
Cody	Leo!
	All four of the Gunjin writhe as their stasis devices shock them. Peering around the corner, Dunn grins, and then runs to Leonardo. He grabs the turtle and yanks him back. Both fall and then look up to see the Gunjin become encapsulated inside the stasis pods.
Cody	Uncle Darius!
Dunn	I take it I helped the right one, Cody?
Cody	Yeah, but how did you…?
Dunn	Serling. He alerted me when he called the Peacekeepers.
	Several Peacekeepers, astride hover vehicles, rise up to the terrace level.
Constable Biggles	‘Ello, ‘ello, ‘ello. What’s all this, then? [He flies down and taps his baton against one of the stasis pods.] Hmm. What?
	Raphael leans over to Leonardo.
Raphael	Pretty convenient timing, don’t you think? He shows up just as the birds took their swan dive?
Leonardo	And before they started talking. We’re gonna keep an eye on Uncle Darius.
	Back at Cody’s penthouse, the turtles practice with their new weapons as Master Splinter looks on.
Serling	Oh, dear! Careful! Watch out!
	He chases after Leonardo, who is springing around the living room. Michelangelo is sulking on the couch.
Splinter	Ninja weapons forged in a union of mind and machine. These are strange times.
Michelangelo	Weapons of the future are dumb.
	Cody walks up to him and extends his hands, each holding a futuristic nunchaku.
Cody	From Starlee.
Michelangelo	Huh? Ha, ha, ha! Hey! [He grabs them and sits up.] Ha, ha, ha! [He springs off the couch.] Woohoo!
Cody	She had a feeling your battle suit thing might not work out.
	Michelangelo starts spinning his new ‘chucks and springing around the room.
Michelangelo	Super ‘chucks of the future! What do they do, what do they do?
	An excited Michelangelo swings them up in the air and a nunchuck hits Serling’s right eye, knocking it from its mooring.
Serling	They cause robots to go half-blind. [The view switches to what Serling sees.] Don’t anyone offer to help, it’s just the robot’s eye.
	The eye loses vision to static, and then “Transmission Lost” shows on Dunn’s spy monitors. Dunn leans back in his chair and strokes his chin.
Dunn	Welcome to the future, my time traveling friends. Enjoy it while you can.
