The Ninja Turtles are a quartet of mutant turtle brothers trained in the art of ninjutsu.
History[]
Fifteen years prior to the present, geneticist Baxter Stockman was killed in an explosion caused by an extraction team sent by his former employers at T.C.R.I.. He dropped a vial of mutagen when the extraction team carried his body off, which fell into a drain and into the sewer. This mutagen came into contact with some turtles and a rat, changing them into humanoids.
The rat, Splinter, raised the turtles as his sons. At one point, despite having been hated by humans prior to his mutation, Splinter attempted to take his family topside and introduce them to the human world. They immediately caused a panic in Times Square and chased off. This caused Splinter to distrust humans altogether. In order to prepare them for a potential need to defend themselves from humans, he taught them martial arts learned through YouTube tutorials and Jackie Chan films.
One night in the current day, the Turtles went on a supply run and stopped off at a drive-in to catch Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Coming home later than they were supposed to, Splinter grounded them.
After their punishment time had elapsed, they spent a night on a rooftop using their weapons to practice on watermelons. When Raphael threw a shuriken through one, it flew off the roof and landed in April O'Neil's helmet. As she was yelling at them for inadvertedly attacking her, a thief stole her scooter. Leonardo became enamoured with April and insisted that they chase down the thief and get her scooter back. Despite Leo attempting to devise a plan, Raph leapt through a window and they were faced with a chopshop full of thugs. Despite being unprepared and making some small mistakes, they prevailed and even their errors ended up taking them out. April arrived to retrieve her scooter and found that all of the thugs were knocked out. The Turtles hid in a corner, but she was aware they were there. The Turtles revealed themselves and even though she freaked momentarily about their appearances, Michelangelo offered to tell them everything over pizza.
Since April was investigating the thefts perpetrated by a criminal known as Superfly, and she stated she was only not afraid of the Turtles because they helped her, the Turtles devise a plan to take down Superfly and have April document it, thus endearing them to the humans. They meet up at her high school afterhours, and she tells them everything she knows about the crook. The Turtles shake down their leads to get to find Superfly. Eventually, they get Bad Bernie to tell them that Superfly had his previous thugs steal and deliver a technology piece and then killed them, then came back to him to have another set of his goons steal another one for him. The Turtles take the device and pretend to be Bernie's minions to meet up with Superfly so they can taken him out, only to find Superfly's gang are a troupe of mutants as well and Superfly is a mutant house fly.
Realizing the Turtles are his "cousins" of sorts, he tells them his origins as Stockman's first experiment and "son", and that his gang is made up of Stockman's other budding experiments. The Turtles and Superfly's gang end up endearing to each other and becoming friendly. Superfly takes them to a bowling alley and as they hang out together, he tells them his plan to build a giant mutagen humidifier to mutate the world's animal population to rise up and subjugate the humans. Superfly and his family had the same interaction with humans that Splinter and the Turtles did, but instead of hiding away, he beat down one of their pursuers and decided to live a violent life of mutant supremacy.
The Turtles agree to accompany them to take the last piece to their hideout. They intended to drive away with the tech, but Superfly has Mondo Gecko, Rocksteady, and Wingnut go with them. The Turtles sabotage the van and crash it, and Superfly realizes he's been double-crossed. The Turtles try to drive away, but the gang attack them and Superfly takes away the device and forces them to crash off the overpass. As they try to recover, Leo realizes that in his effort to at least take the device off of Superfly before he flew off, he only took the tracking device T.C.R.I. put on it, and the extraction team knocks them out and take them back to headquarters.
The head of T.C.R.I., Cynthia Utrom, tries to "milk" the Turtles of the mutagen in their blood so that she can use it to create mutants for military purposes. April heads to get Splinter to save them, and he infiltrates T.C.R.I. to recover his sons. Splinter takes the Turtles to go stop Superfly and then intends to force them to stay in the sewer forever, as his fear of someone milking the Turtles came true.
Splinter and the Turtles go to Superfly's hideout in the ship graveyard at Staten Island. The Turtles and Splinter convince Superfly's gang that his plan is horrid and Splinter offers to let them live with them in the sewers. The gang turns on Superfly and they all work together to stop him from activating his machine. They damage the machine slightly and it begins to overload, and Superfly makes Splinter realize that he's been going the wrong way about how he has been "protecting" his sons. He rushes the gang and his sons into Superfly, knocking him into the machine, and out of the ship and into the ocean. The machine goes off and mutates Superfly into a massive multi-mutant kaiju "Superduperfly".
Superduperfly heads to mainland New York City and Splinter admits his mistakes and insists they take down Superduperfly. April calls and as they head to the mainland, April brings the anti-mutagen gun she acquired when she stole the T.C.R.I. motorcycle. Raph shoots Superduperfly in the leg with the anti-mutagen but it only dislodges one horse from his leg. Superduperfly takes out his rampage on the Turtles and his former family. The media frames all of the mutants as menaces as Superduperfly is,.
Donatello takes a page out of Attack on Titan to make a plan to fire the anti-mutagen into Superduperfly's blowhole at the nape of his neck. April barges into Channel 6 and fights back her camera fright to show everyone that Superduperfly is the only bad one, endearing them to the Turtles and their new friends. The citizens of New York help the Turtles, Splinter, and Superfly's former gang to take down Superduperfly, eventually succeeding in demutating him. The Turtles and their friends are hailed as heroes and Superfly's former gang are welcomed into the sewer to live with Splinter and the Turtles. The Turtles enroll in high school. Don hangs out with the nerds, Raph joins the wrestling team, and Mikey starts an improv club. Leo helps April look into the secrets of T.C.R.I. and attends prom with her.
