The New York City Fire Department, or FDNY, is the main firefighting force in New York City, making appearances in some Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles media, alongside the New York Police Department. The FDNY also has an Emergency Medical Services branch know as the New York City Fire Department Bureau of EMS. In real life, the FDNY lost 343 of their men in the September 11th terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, ranging from the Chief of the department to many firefighters assigned to the various firehouses around the city, along with many of their fire trucks and equipment.
Live-action movies
In the first of the live-action movies, the FDNY appear when they are called to a fire at April O'Neil's apartment and antique shop, following a battle between the Ninja Turtles and the Foot Clan that originally sparked the inferno. Danny Pennington watches the inferno from a rooftop, horrified by what his actions in ratting the Turtles out to the Shredder has done.
In the sequel, following the attacks on a city street by the Shredder's mutants, Tokka and Rahzar, the FDNY is called in with the NYPD and other New York City public services to clean up the mess, extinguish any fires, and treat anyone wounded by the attacks.
