In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe issue #24's backup story, Life at Sea, Pete imagines a fictional life of himself and his friends living as pirates as sea, including a version of Man Ray who is the captain of a pirate ship. Captain Ray is introduced singing the Mutant Manta Ray's Song, which is a parody of the Major-General's Song from The Pirates of Penzance, a musical comedy written in the 19th century by Gilbert and Sullivan.
Lyrics[]
- I am the very model of a modern mutant manta ray...
- I sail the seas with my pal Pete nearly every single day...
Ray is interrupted before he can continue the song.
Trivia[]
- The song was not given an official title. The title used here, "Mutant Manta Ray's Song" is analogous to "Major-General's Song," whose original first two verses are:
- I am the very model of a modern Major-General.
- I've information vegetable, animal and mineral.
