Some TMNT stuff really isn't for little kids. |
In the IDW continuity, Mr. Kimball was originally a human professor at New York University living in Upper Manhattan with his wife and their son Billy. But Kimball like so many others was infected by Old Hob and Man Ray's mutagen bomb and was confined to live in Mutant Town. For becoming a mutant, he was shunned by his wife, who thereafter refused to let him see their son even over video calls. Kimball became homeless in Mutant Town and started drinking heavily.
In Jennika II #1: "Monsters", Kimball was one of several mutants undergoing unexplained secondary mutation into larger, more monstrous forms, and was the first such case encountered by Jennika on the street. During his chaotic encounter with Jennika, Kimball made a run for the Mutant Town wall to try to escape to the other side, which Jenny tried to prevent as she knew mutants detained outside the zone wound up captured and imprisoned elsewhere. Finally, Jenny managed to knock Kimball off a building rooftop where he fell onto a neon sign and was jolted with a large amount of electricity, after which he fell to the sidewalk unconscious and inexplicably reverted back to his previous more ordinary mutant form. That is when some other mutant pedestrians recognized who he was.
When it became clear that Kimball and some other monstrous-transformed mutants were emerging from the same automobile chop shop that served as the backroom entrance to the Market, Jenny suspected that Ivan and his "cures" must somehow be involved again, which Ivan immediately denied.
Later it was determined that Mr. Kimball became a member of the Shadow People and moved to the tunnels. While living there, Zodi abducted him and injected him with Null Group's mutant serum. He was released on the surface with two other members of the Shadow People so that they would cause a scene that would give mutants bad publicity as monsters.
