Synopsis[]

Channel 2 news reports on the Mutant Town situation, interviewing people of New York City and Mayor Stockman. Most are very much anti-mutant, with their attitudes reflecting common racial arguments. The reader is also presented with Tweets from two individuals, a Kid_Professor_03 and an OK_Kenny, who argue about the mutants' existence.

Jennika hears someone calling for help, and finds a mutant dog and a mutant alligator fighting over a bag of groceries, with one of them yelling that the other is stealing it from them. Jennika knocks the two down and the dog takes off with the groceries. The alligator yells at Jennika, saying that she let him get away, and they had to borrow money to buy them and now they have nothing to feed their children. Jenn then misgenders the alligator, mistaking her for a male. Jennika goes to chase after the dog, when suddenly he returns with the bag and apologizes, leaving the bag in Jennika's hands.

Suddenly a car slides down the street on its bumper and crashes, coming from the direction that the dog had returned from. Following the car, is a massive, feral mutant hyena. Jenn tries reasoning with him, but he roars and punches her hard enough to knock her into some trash. The alligator screams that he's a monster, and most of the mutants in the area run, but two remain to record the hyena eating from the dropped grocery bag on their phones. Jenn worries that this will just add more fuel to the humans' hatred and begs them to not post the footage online.

The hyena heads for the wall, and Jennika realizes how disastrous that would be. She chases him and jumps on his back, but he throws her into the window of a store. The proprietor yells at her for breaking his store. Jennika promises after she takes care of the hyena, she'll be back to help. As the hyena reaches the wall and begins scaling it, she grabs his tail with a manriki-gusari and pulls him down, trying to get his attention away from the wall. She leaps up a fire escape, but the hyena proves faster and cuts part of her cloak off as she reaches the top.

The hyena tries to escape for the wall again, but Jenn chains his legs together with the manriki-gusari and rams him with her shoulder, knocking them both off of the roof, hitting the opposite fire escape, some clotheslines, and an electric sign before hitting the ground, with the hyena taking the brunt of the damage. Jenn yells at the crowd not to take pictures again, or at the very least, not post them online. As she does, the hyena shrinks down to a normal human-sized hyena mutant. A rabbit mutant recognizes him as Mr. Kimball, a former New York University professor whose wife and son were uptown when the mutagen bomb detonated, and thus did not get changed; subsequently, Mrs. Kimball refused to let their son, Billy, see his father post-mutation, and Mr. Kimball became an alcoholic out of depression.

Jenn finds a bottle of pills on Mr. Kimball, and suspects they're the culprit. One of the members of the crowd exclaims that their cousin texted them about another "monster" that had just wrecked an auto body shop. Jenn says she believes that she knows which one it is, and heads in that direction, while Claire at the Channel 2 studio and Chase in the Channel 2 news helicopter report on the more monstrous mutants which seem to be cropping up.

Jennika reaches the Auto Body Repair shop, a chop-shop that is a front for The Market, where a large lizard monster-mutant is attempting to be corralled by a number of other mutants. It makes short work of the mutants, but Jennika spies a familiar bat mutant pull out his gun - Ivan. Jenn kicks his gun out of his hand and she blames him for the rampages, showing him the pills she found. Ivan claims it's not him and The Market involved with this, as not only is the bottle full of anti-anxiety medication, but drugs are one of the few things The Market doesn't deal in. Jennika, for her part, still doesn't believe him, as she witnesses a giant mutant praying mantis heading out of the chop-shop.
