Summary[]
Angel Grove. The Command Center. The Shredder takes on Bebop and Scorpina in defense of Zordon. Bebop is astonished that his Master is working with the good guys and reiterates Scorpina’s statement that he should be ashamed of himself. Shredder tells Bebop to watch his tongue or he’ll remove it, that Bebop was nothing before they met and he can take everything he is now away. He delivers an uppercut that takes Bebop down and then turns to punch Scorpina hard enough to draw blood and put her out of commission. Shredder tells her that once she puts her jaw back together to tell the space witch that he’s coming for her. Earth is no longer Krang’s for the taking – it belongs to The Shredder.
Jason is relieved to see Shredder, but Tommy says he’ll never turn his back on him, even though he is buying them time. Tommy asks Alpha 5 how he’s doing and Alpha replies that he’s trying, but that the evac unit has never been tested. He’s worried what will happen if it isn’t calibrated and sealed property, but Zordon interrupts to tell him to activate the unit. As the evac unit activates, there is a shout from Zordon and he vanishes into the unit. Alpha believes the transfer was successful and Shredder tells them they are out of time. The Command Center will soon be crawling with General Traag’s forces, so Shredder tells Alpha to get Zordon out of there. He tells Jason and Tommy they are with him. Bebop and Scorpina are headed towards them again and there is a fight to finish.
Elsewhere in the compound, Casey stands guard over Baxter Stockman as he works to sabotage the power node. Casey tells Stockman the clock is ticking, but is informed that if one of the beacons is off by even a few millimeters, it means certain death. When he says he is done, Casey starts to activate the energy cycle but is interrupted by Raphael, who says he’s going to beat the “best friend” back into him. Casey informs him that he’s too late and he’s already lost. There is an explosion and Raph’s Ranger uniform vanishes.
In the city, the Rangers and Turtles all lose their uniforms. Billy states that something is wrong with the power node, explaining that it’s a sub-dimensional multi-phasic energy regulator. Inside the Command Center, Shredder is battling Bebop and Scorpina, with Tommy and Jason attempting to help though they too are without their Ranger powers. Alpha 5 communicates with the Rangers, telling them that they’ve lost the Command Center and their connection to the Morphin Grid has been compromised. He and Zordon are engaging the emergency teleporter, but… The rest of his sentence is interrupted when Rita Repulsa approaches, teasing the group for attempting to leave. She tells Traag he has some trophies to collect, which prompts him to order his Rock Soldiers to open fire. The Turtles and Rangers run for cover with all of the bad guys in pursuit. Alpha 5 quickly teleports the group out of the battle zone.
Rita leaves the city proper and enters the Command Center. She orders her minions to spread out and search every inch of the compound, and then secure it. Rita warns that Zordon may have left a few surprises behind. As she examines Zordon’s cracked plasma tube, she asks Casey what his friends will do next, since he knows the Turtles better than anyone. He answers that Donnie and Billy will try to fix whatever Rita broke. Raph and Tommy will be looking for a fight, and Splinter will try to calm them down. He adds that if she pushes the right buttons, she can draw them out. Krang arrives and is astonished to find a working Command Center. They had one on Dimension X, but it was destroyed by the time they took it over. He commends Rita and Casey, saying that it won’t be long before the Earth is finally his. Casey then asks him why he wants Earth. They both have vast unstoppable armies and could take over any other planet or dimension, but they keep coming back here. He wants to know what makes Earth so special. Rita says nothing and Krang agrees, saying it is merely a matter of pride. To them, Earth is primitive and its people self-destructive. Krang says the best change Casey’s species has for survival is to be conquered by someone much more advanced. Casey takes that to mean Krang, but then says that no matter how many times he tries, he just can’t seem to finish the job. Then Rita tells Casey that thanks to him, that’s all about to change.
Underground, in the sewers, the Turtles and Rangers gather together. April is trying to understand why the coins just stopping working. Billy says that the coins are fine, but the intruders must have sabotaged the power node. He explains that the Morphin Grid is too powerful, so the Command Center requires a stabilizer to regulate the energy flow to the Morphers. Zack asks if he can just build another one. Mikey seconds that, saying he and Donnie are always inventing stuff. He tells them to just make a thing that does a thing – and he’ll order pizza. Suddenly, the Shredder arrives and nixes that idea. He informs them that to fashion a new power node would require materials located only in the furthest reaches of space. He says the plan cannot be circumvented and he should know, because he helped come up with it.
Leonardo immediately pulls his sword on Shredder, aiming the blade inches from his face. He states that today wasn’t a total loss because he’s caught Shredder. Making no movement, Shredder tells him he’s not captured, that on the contrary, he’s their savior. Jason backs up the statement, telling the others that Shredder is the only reason they were able to get Zordon out in time. Still suspicious, Leo wants to know what Shredder wants. The answer is revenge for being replaced. General Krang feels that he’s no longer worthy to command the forces of Dimension X and has turned over that privilege to Rita Repulsa. Kimberly is sarcastic as she comments that somehow getting fired makes him a good guy. Shredder explains that he means to rule Earth and that won’t happen if it’s desecrated by some alien sorceress. Though he is not happy about it, his goals and theirs are aligned.
Angel Grove. Three Days Later. April has returned to the city to find out what is happening. Rock Soldiers and Putty Patrollers roam the streets, led by Slash, searching for citizens who are outside. The city is on lockdown; neither the press nor the military can get inside. Leo thinks it was a mistake to allow April to go back, but she says that running into dangerous places so she can tell people what is going on is her job. Leo knows this, since she reminds him of it all the time, he just has a concern that she went in alone. April tells him that she’s not alone, she’s been joined by Bulk and Skull, and they know every hiding place in the city. She communicates through her hologram watch, so she and the Turtles and Rangers can see each other. Jason asks if she’s all right and if she was able to find their families. April says she’s okay and those she’s found are scared but okay as well. She then says that her signal might be tracked so she needs to be brief. April reports that something is going on at the Command Center, that there is some sort of construction and it seems to involve the Zords. The worst problem though is that more and more Rock Soldiers come through the portal each day. She thinks that Angel Grove is the launching point for a full-scale invasion. The longer they all wait to do something, the stronger Krang and Rita get.
After the communication ends, Tommy expresses his anger that they have invaded their home and messed with their families. Raph is more than ready to take the fight to the bad guys, but Splinter urges caution, saying they could be expecting an attack. Zack tells him they’re not being reckless and Leo says it’s strategic. The longer they wait, the worse it gets and Trini adds that they’ve fought without powers before. Then Billy speaks up to say maybe they don’t have to. He and Donatello have been experimenting with some mutagen and the power coins. Don says he knows what they’re about to propose sounds a bit radical, and Billy says they’re ninety-seven percent sure it won’t last forever. Don corrects that to eighty-six percent. Kimberly wants to know exactly what they’re suggesting. Billy replies that they’re suggesting that rather than trying to be Rangers again, they try to be more like the Turtles.
Back in Angel Grove, April is hiding in an alley with Bulk, Skull and a group of the Rangers’ family members. She is preparing to lead them to safety when Bebop and Rocksteady suddenly appear to block their escape. Just then, the Turtles and Rangers teleport in and Leo tells Jason that if his team is still up for it, it’s Morphin time. Holding out their coins, Jason shouts that it’s mutating time. The team each press their modified coin against their arm and become the Mighty Mutant Power Rangers. Zack becomes a mastodon, Kimberly becomes a pterodactyl, Billy becomes a triceratops, Trini becomes a saber-tooth tiger, Jason becomes a tyrannosaurus, and Tommy becomes a Dragon.
Don and Trini stand together on a rooftop and Trini says that she can smell the Rock Soldiers. Don wants to know what they smell like, and Trini says mostly mildew. Together, the pair leap off the roof and smash into Rock Soldiers, which Trini says feels “grrrreat”. Then she sniffs the air and says Putty Patrollers smell like ginger-bread… and she’s hungry. As they battle Putties and Rock Soldiers, Mikey asks Jason how he feels, because mutating has been known to cause some to hurl. Jason replies that he feels fantastic, especially since he was sure he’d be stuck with two tiny arms. April peers at Billy from the alley way as he removes Rock Soldiers from her path. She asks if the mutation is his handiwork and he says yes as he uses his tail to devastating effect. April quickly leads the group of civilians out of hiding and they run for it. Mikey calls out “team cold-blooded to the rescue”, which Jason thinks is a cool name.
As Leo and Tommy decimate their enemies, Leo finds it interesting that he transformed into a dragon, asking if he’s aware that dragons don’t actually exist. Tommy does, but says he stopped trying to figure out the Morphin grid a long time ago. He leaves that stuff to Billy. Leo tells him Don tried once to explain mutational computation to him, but he fell asleep in front of him. Then Leo asks if Tommy can breathe fire and Tommy says he hopes so, which causes several Putties to pause. Suddenly, Casey leaps into their midst and destroys the Putty Patrollers near the pair. Leo asks if he’s forgotten which side he’s on and Tommy says he’s feeling spit-fire gurgling up inside. Casey says he comes in peace and tosses a Mobile Portal Generator to Leo, telling him Donnie will know how to work it. He also says that the Power Node is being kept in Krang’s stronghold in Dimension X. Tommy thinks that Casey is really bad at setting a trap, but Casey says that all of Krang’s forces are on Earth, which has left his stronghold defenseless. If they go there and destroy it, no more invasions. Leo confronts him with all the bad he’s done, but Casey explains that he was tortured. All they wanted from him was info on the Turtles, but he never gave it up. When Rita showed him their army, he realized that his friends were destined to lose. He decided then to play offense and become their inside man in order to help them. He knows it’s risky and he’s sorry for the people who got hurt, but if they do this right, they can finish the game forever. He then asks if his friends are with him or not.
Still fighting nearby, Raph asks Zack if he’s done with his bad guys yet, but his new tusks are making things difficult. Raph then turns to Kimberly and asks her to fly up and toss some baddies down to him. Kimberly tries to take off and winds up crashing. Raph asks her what the heck she’s doing and she tells him to cut her some slack, she’s been a giant flying lizard for about twenty minutes and has no idea how she works yet. Kimberly doesn’t see the group of Putty Patrollers coming up behind her, but then Splinter suddenly joins the fight and destroys them. Kimberly is surprised to see him and says he shouldn’t be out there. Splinter explains that years ago he helped several young mutants harness their skills and protect their city. Today he intends to do it again. He turns to Raphael and tells him he will help the Rangers with the defense of Angel Grove, but that he and his brothers have another path.
Beneath the city, Don is studying the Mobile Portal Generator while his brothers and Shredder look on. When Leo asks if he’s got it working yet, Don tells him you can’t rush genius. Leo then informs Shredder that he won’t be coming back from Dimension X if anything happens to his brothers. Shredder laughs and replies that Leo’s naïve bravado is comforting. Don activates the portal and opens a conduit to Dimension X. As they step through, Shredder asks Leo what makes him think that any of them are ever coming back from Dimension X.
