Summary[]

At the Command Center, the Turtles are mourning. Thoughts abound, thoughts that fighting mutants or ninjas or giant monsters could eventually get to the point where one thinks this is their life now. You keep going and keep doing things you never thought you’d do, like teleporting to the Moon. That’s not the scary part; the really scary part is when you stop thinking you’ll ever lose. Because that is when someone gets hurt.

Tommy approaches Leonardo, who is seated cross-legged on the floor. Tommy says that Zordon sent him to find Leo. He starts another sentence but is interrupted when Leo tells him that this is Tommy’s fault. Leo leaps up and shoves Tommy against a wall, shouting that they were told to stay put and be patient. He too would have liked to go to that place and smash it to pieces. Tommy stammers that he’s sorry, but Leo yells that his father is dead because of him and “sorry” doesn’t fix that. Jason tells Leo to let him go and that he already knows what he did. Raphael says that Splinter wouldn’t have… Leo turns on Raph and yells at him not to dare say his name. He points at Raph and says that he knows this was his idea. He says Raph always screws up and Splinter always forgave him. But not this time. Then Leo turns his back on everyone, stating that he’s done as he walks away. Kimberly tries to tell him she can’t imagine what he’s going through, but Zordon needs all of them. Leo replies that others have been telling him what to do his whole life and it’s time for a change. He asks Michelangelo and Donatello if they are with him. Don says that where Leo goes, he goes. Mike tells them he’s super sad, but not to do this. Raph tells Leo that his going rogue won’t fix things. Tommy adds that’s exactly what Shredder and Zedd want. Jason then tells Kim that she’s in charge while he and Trini are gone. Kim is surprised that he’s leaving too. Zack calls for everyone to chill out and asks if they’re really gonna split up. Leo, Don, Jason, and Trini walk away.

In the Moon Palace, Shredder touches the ash left behind when Splinter was shot. He says he always imagined things would end differently between them. There would be an epic battle, something worthy of their years of conflict. Some sort of grand finale, but not this. Lord Zedd asks if he’s mourning over his fallen adversary. Zedd says that Shredder will come to realize that he was given a gift. When the war is all you know, it can be terrifying when you can’t see beyond it. Shredder replies that he fears nothing. Zedd tells him that when the time is right, he will destroy Zordon for him and then they will both be free.

They both stand looking down at the Shadow Morphers and Zedd says their little experiment was a success. Shredder replies that once one of the power coins came within proximity of their shadow morphers, they automatically began siphoning off morphin energy. Zedd holds one of the morphers and says that this is only the beginning. He asks Shredder to imagine an army of mutant rangers at their command. However, an army would dissipate the morphin grid. The few they have, the more powerful they are. A few will be enough to acquire the true objective. The evil duo look down at a room filled with their underlings and Zedd says they simply must decide which of them are worthy.

Back at the Command Center, Michelangelo has been inside the Pocket Dimension for almost two hours. Kimberly tells Zack and Raph that she’s thrown every bad guy from Billy’s archive at him and nothing has slowed him down. Zack is of the opinion that he’s having a good time, but Raph asks if he’s been cracking any bad jokes, and Kim says no, that he’s been quiet. Raph tells them Mikey’s not having a good time. The only thing scarier than an angry Mikey is a quiet one. He says not to let Mikey out until he makes a bad pun or something. A close-up of Mikey shows that he is shedding tears.

Billy, Tommy, and Alpha 5 are conferring with Zordon. The moment Master Splinter was ionized, Billy picked up a massive energy surge. When Zordon reminds them that Lord Zedd is very powerful, Billy tells them it wasn’t on the Moon. The surge, he says, came from an entirely different dimension in an unexplored region of space. Zordon asks to be sent the location so it can be cross-referenced with the archives. Alpha 5 interrupts to say two massive energy signatures are teleporting down from the Moon. One is in Sydney, Australia and they appear to be Tokka and Rahzar, both pulsing with morphin energy. The second is in Tōkyō, Japan and it’s Karai and Leatherhead. Both pairs have Z-Foot Soldiers with them and are already destroying the cities.

Zordon tells Alpha 5 to send everyone. Tommy reminds him that without Jason and Trini, they won’t be able to call the Megazord. Billy says that he and Don have been experimenting with the original shadow morphers. Even without the power coins nearby, there might be enough residual energy to allow Raph and Mikey to morph. Zordon agrees it is their only option and meanwhile, he will try to contact Jason to see if they can join the group. The six heroes morph, with Mikey becoming the Saber-Tooth Tiger and Raph the Tyrannosaurus.

When Raph, Tommy, and Zack arrive in Sydney, they find that Tokka and Rahzar are doing as their master told them – having fun. They learn very quickly that Tokka can shoot icy blasts from his mouth and that Rahzar is a fire breather. Mikey races between the pair and smacks both in the mouth, then spins around to face them. He says he’s a sitting duck and it’s curtains for Mikey. When they turns towards him, he tells them Shredder may have made them bigger and meaner, but they aren’t any smarter because he made them look. Zack hits Tokka with his Power Axe and Tommy punches Rahzar hard enough to knock him down.

In Tōkyō, Raph, Billy, and Kim face off against Karai, Leatherhead, and Z-Foot Soldiers. Billy urges that they hurry, because his calculations indicate that the shadow morphers may be draining their power coins. Raph doesn’t want them to be in too big a hurry, because he’s starting to like being a Ranger, though he’ll never get used to the helmets. Leatherhead comes up behind him and chomps down on Raph’s head. Raph calls out for some help, and Billy kicks Leatherhead in the face while telling him to pick on an ectothermic animal his own size. Raph asks what he just said, and Billy explains that ectothermic means cold-blooded, like turtles and crocodiles. Raph calls him a nerd.

Kimberly tells Karai that if she wanted to be a Ranger so bad, she could have just joined up. Karai replies that she’s never been a monochromatic kind of girl and she prefers playing for the winning side. She slashes the arrows that Kim has been shooting at her and then rushes forward to knock Kim down. Kim says that if she wanted a fight, they could have done it in the States. She asks what Karai wants. Karai tells her she wants the same thing they always want… to destroy the Rangers and Turtles.

In the Turtle Lair, in New York, Don is at his computer. He, Trini, Leo, and Jason have seen and heard all that has occurred. Trini asks if he can triangulate their location, but Don tells her that hacking the Command Center’s safeguards is hard. Leonardo senses that something is wrong. Jason says that of course there is because his friends and Leo’s brothers are in danger and they are hiding in the sewers. Leo tells him that Karai is lying. Every attack over the last few months has been about acquisition. They don’t seem to be after anything in Sydney or Japan. Trini urges that they do something to help and Don agrees with her. What Leo is getting at dawns on Jason and he says that may be exactly what the bad guys want them to do. Leo says the objective is to distract them, to draw them away from their true target.

Promethea Research Facility. As Dr. Boyd and Grace Sterling walk away from the Technodrome, the latter complains that Boyd is making excuses. He’s had the Technodrome for over six months. Boyd replies that in that time he’s provided her access to over eighty percent of it. His team has circumvented a dozen alien countermeasures and sidestepped numerous systems. Sterling appreciates his ingenuity and sacrifice, but will six compartments still a mystery, her patience is slipping away. She is certain something very special lies at the heart of the Technodrome. Suddenly, a light flashes overhead and a portal opens. Shredder, Lord Zedd, Bebop, Rocksteady and Z-Foot Soldiers drop into the compound.

Sterling tells the soldiers to activate all defenses and scramble the troops because they are under attack. Zedd and a pair of Z-Foot Soldiers walk towards the Technodrome and Shredder asks if he’s certain he knows where he’s going. Zedd replies that his objective is clear and asks if Shredder will accomplish his or let his ego get in the way. The Promethea soldiers open fire. To himself, Shredder states that he will enjoy destroying Zedd when this is over and then activates his morpher to become Dragonzord. As he goes about decimating the troops, he tells them he is Shredder, master of the Foot Clan, and will not remember any of them. Then another portal opens to drop Jason, Donatello, and Trini into the compound. Jason tells Shredder he’s pretty sure he’ll remember them.

Trini and Don take on Bebop and Rocksteady. The soldiers guarding Sterling insist she be taken to safety, but she tells them to mobilize and sweep the Technodrome. Shredder focuses on Sterling, saying it’s a pity they won’t get to know each other better. Jason jumps in front of Shredder, thwarting his attack. Shredder asks if he thinks he can beat him all by himself, and Jason replies there is only one way to find out.

Meanwhile, Zedd has gained access into the Technodrome. He finds it more impressive than he anticipated and that it might suit his needs after all. He approaches a security pad and begins entering a code, promising that if it doesn’t work, his alliance with Shredder will end. The code works, giving him access to a room filled with canisters of mutagen. Zedd states that they are the building blocks of their army. With Rangers as Generals and a legion of mutant soldiers, the galaxy will be… His gloating is cut off when both of the Z-Foot Soldiers hit the floor. Zedd turns to find Leonardo in the room, swords drawn. Leo says he thought he’d have to go to the Moon to find Zedd. He thanks Zedd for saving him the trouble.
