In the future of 2044, Michelangelo is part of a resistance faction against the Krang in Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie.

Physical appearance

Michelangelo is a mutant ornate box turtle with blue-green skin, straight, sage green hair, a bright yellow plastron, and a blue-grey carapace with a yellow pattern. He has more geometric yellow markings throughout his body compared to when he was a teenager. He has black eyes, a tooth gap in the left side of his upper jaw, three fingers on each hand, and two toes on each foot. He wears an orange hooded cloak with dark orange trim and a yellow geometric pattern. The cloak, along with a dark orange chest harness underneath it, is held together by the Turtle emblem. Off-white wraps around his forearms, palms, and legs, and a dark orange sash wrapped around his waist. He also wears a pink peace symbol sticker on his plastron.

Personality

Compared to his demeanor in 2020, Mikey is "definitely less cheerful, and more wise" yet "still ultimately has faith in the goodness of people and the world". Mikey displays loyalty to his family and a desire to defend others, sacrificing himself on Leonardo's command. Mikey intact optimism is shown in his wink to Leo and Casey Jones II before his death and his willingness to sacrifice himself for the possibility of a better future.

History

Though the exact details of when are unknown, throughout the Krang apocalypse, Mikey slowly learns to harness extremely powerful mystic powers, capable of unlocking "almost any mystical power you can think of".

In Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie, Mikey, Casey, and Leonardo were outnumbered and overwhelmed by the Krang in 2044. Mikey was instructed by Leo to create a time gateway to send Casey back to the day the Krang were freed from the Prison Dimension in hopes of preventing the apocalypse. Creating the portal demanded the extent of Mikey's abilities and he slowly eroded away into particles. Just as the time gateway opened, Mikey dissolved into nothing.

• Hamato Ninpō: As a member of the Hamato Clan, Mikey is capable of tapping into his clan's energy to unleash his own mystic might. Mikey is the most powerful between his brothers.
  • Time gateway creation: Mikey can travel through time and space, creating a portal to decades in the past. However, the ability proved to be lethal as Mikey just barely managed to execute time gateway creation before the mystic energy overwhelmed his body and ended his life.
  • Levitation: Mikey is able to levitate slightly above the ground.

• It was stated in August 2022 by Rise of the TMNT staff writer Ron Corcillo in a Tweet that Mikey's hair is "an indicator of his greater wisdom."
• It was stated in July 2023 by Rise of the TMNT staff writer Corcillo in a Tweet that when executing a powerful action (e.g., time gateway creation), Hamato Ninpō demands a significant amount of energy from its users. This consequence impacts Mikey in form of premature aging, who physically is in his seventies (roughly) but is only in his thirties chronologically.
  • It was stated in July 2023 by Rise of the TMNT staff writer Corcillo in a Tweet that, ". . . he [Mikey] probably grew a little taller and then shrink as the use of his powers depleted him."
• In a scrapped animatic for the prologue of Rise of the TMNT: The Movie, Mikey is shown to be levitating in a room surrounded by lit candles. In this animatic, he also has an additional line of dialogue, "He who demands a way from the ocean only receives disappointment." This further emphasizes Mikey growing to be very wise.
