  • I have opened a discussion seeking opinions on the best ways to manage Turtlepedia's category structure. Thread:102009

  • And since I'm such an OCD geek who likes to go overboard with complete, complex information...

Please see this discussion I started with The S, and look at the category tree I've illustrated. If it were up to you, seeing that as it is now, would you leave it as-is, or do you think there are parts of it that should be simplified? Such as, individual categories collapsed with their entries reverting to the grandparent category, or extra "convenience" entries like Humans being listed under Apes, Mammals and Vertebrates instead of just under Apes.

I'm asking for opinions. If you have any, please comment in the thread I linked. :)

  • Do you mind if I ask you something about Season 4 of TMNT 2012?

Personally, I preferred Leatherhead for Mikey. Most of my friends did, since It Came From The Depths had such a compelling "first date", "first argument" and "I'm falling in love with you" vibe to it. Before Leatherhead aged so much in Dimension X, he had young green scales and had never had a real social life, suggesting he wasn't that old. And this scene made many of us believe they were not only already dating, but had already started sleeping together (portrayed in only the most TV-Y7-friendly way, of course). Even my 71-year-old dad had that immediate impression of them, because of the common wisdom that two males past puberty do not sleep and spoon unless they are in some way romantically or intimately involved. Then the show started to get really inconsistent with character and plot, and we never know what they intend to do with Mikey or Leatherhead, or indeed any of the story or characters.

But yes, anyone would have been better than this Renet. She was very, very poorly written. Mikey and Renet could have worked had the writing been better. But after what happened in the two episodes she was in, I think this Renet is already a failed character who will likely never be more anything than a shallow love interest and romantic plot tumor whose most complex personality trait is her ability to gainax and her remarkable supernatural power to reach into an audience's mind and turn a two-dimensional show into a one-dimensional show. Yes, she was bad. Very, very bad. XD

      KaijuHero:

Yes, I'm familiar with that character model. She actually appears on lots of episodes, but she has a different face and blonde hair color. New York City has a lot of Catholic schools, and a lot of girls attending Catholic school wear plaid skirts like that. In Irma's case, she appeared to be wearing it more as a personal fashion along with the rest of her goth clothes and accessories.

I can understand the Leatherhead part a little, but still... O_O It's kind of...unexpected. But anything goes, I guess. Plus, I do not care much for Renet, but I can see why you think that way for her. I don't think she was just a love interest for Mikey, but they apparently focused on that more than adding more to her, which she should of done. Yeah, Renet is nothing special as a character. They could have done her better.

To KaijuHero: I can see the general and his army getting in the way of the turtles and making it hard for them to get what they need. I wonder if they'll be enemies of the Triceratons like the 2003 series?

And it would be nice to see those characters in the other post you made. Maybe we can see some other characters in space, like Kerma the Turtleoid, or that Polarisoid tourist guy, or just about anyone...

  • I think you do a lot of good work adding missing categories to articles in general. :) Since you've been doing a lot of category-related editing, I thought I should share some notes with you.

I noticed you kept misapplying Category:Martial Arts to character articles. So, with this confusion in mind, I recently created Category:Martial Artists. Martial artist characters can go there, but Category:Ninja is a subcategory and ninja should go there instead. The S has informed me that Category:Ninjas should remain empty and not be used, because the wiki has formally decided to use Category:Ninja in all cases.

I also recently purged the category Non-Humans as an excessively broad category of exclusion. Ideally, non-humans should be found in the various subcategories of Category:Characters by Species where Category:Humans should also be a subcategory.

I'm trying to help reduce category clutter in general. It is best for articles to be placed and cross-referenced in appropriate and relevant subcategories. Broader categories (like Category:Mammals, Category:Reptiles, etc.) shouldn't have direct article entries unless there exists no appropriate subcategory for that article's species. For mutant species used only once (like hedgehog, aardvark, etc.), a dedicated species category is currently not necessary—a category needs at least two entries (two articles, two subcategories, or one article and one subcategory) to justify its existence.

    • It seems Category:IDW characters was deleted in the past. Considering this wiki's scope as a TMNT wiki, I can see how there's probably no reason for "IDW characters" to exist separately from "IDW TMNT Characters". Personally, I'd just purge "IDW characters" and only have "IDW TMNT Characters", including the crossover characters.

    • I'll accept that, I didn't want every character who is from another timeline to be future. it would be confusing since there are different futures explored such as Archie 2003 has two different futures one explored in Across the Universe and Fast Forward. Fast Forward characters are categorized as fast forward characters. Archie comics seems to be theo nly to do a whole story arc on future versions of the turtles. IDW did a single issue about the future. Mirage we only get glimpses of the future such as Leo's girl friend radical dieing, an old version of Donnie who quit the team, Raph as sensei. So if anything if there is a future version of a character they deserve just an alternate page.

    • I have question would the Ninja Tribunal count as deities do their immortal status or are they just immortals.

    • KaijuHero: In the edit page panel where the categories are listed, there is an invisible "X" button next to each of the entries that appears when your mouse cursor rolls over them. That can remove categories.

  • We already have 3 separate pages for Mozar, and all 3 are found here on his disambiguation page here http://turtlepedia.wikia.com/wiki/Mozar

also you talked about making the 3 separate pages of Mozar in the talk page of the Zanramon talk page, there is no rule about talking about other characters/stuff on other pages but it just seemed out of place so I deleted it. Just letting you know.

  • Just came by to say not a bad job on the creepweed edit but still kindve speculative, the part "can be seen as a reference" a lot of things can be seen in a character but we're gonna need a little more to be able to call it a reference. Like if um They basically made a shot for shot version of the battle between Godzilla and biolante but used creepweed and mikey, but I just fixed your edit to talk about how similar both creatures look and resemble each other, as that is considered trivia.
