Mechazoids are bipedal, self-repairing artificial intelligence robots created by Dr. Josefina Bishop. The Mechazoids appear in the Tales of the TMNT series.
History[]
Dr. Josefina Bishop had a sister named Elena who was born without legs and she herself has no left arm. Having built her sister a pair of legs and herself a prosthetic arm, Bishop set about creating artificially intelligent robots, which she calls "Mechazoids". To fund her company, Bishop Robotics, Bishop created a presentation for millionaire Roderick Underwood, Sr.. While her first Mechazoid, numbered 00 but which she calls "Mechazoid Alpha", demonstrated its abilities, Bishop explained to Underwood that the applications for the robots are limitless. From manufacturing to agriculture, space exploration to prosthetics - imagine a world where technology lifts humanity up, not drags them down. Underwood agreed to fund her operation, to even double what she was asking for, as long as she hired his son, Rod. Bishop Makes Her Move
With her factory fully equipped, Bishop worked on perfecting Mechazoid 00 and dedicated it to her sister. However, only moments after completing the robot, Superfly, in his doubly-mutated form, stomps through the roof of the factory. As the other foot comes down, Mechazoid Alpha shoves Bishop out of the way and is crushed. An enraged Bishop's entire world view is changed in that moment. Instead of dedicating her life to building robots to aid humanity, she chooses to create robots that will wipe out all mutants.
Her first target is the Turtles. Having lured the four brothers to the shipyards, Bishop sends four of her Mechazoids out to destroy them. The Turtles soon learn that the Mechazoids are highly dangerous adversaries and can find no way to destroy them. Finally, Leonardo comes up with a plan to drop a shipping container on them. The plan is successful, but the container was filled with fireworks, as were all the other nearby containers. A huge explosion separates the brothers and sets the shipyards on fire.
The Turtles soon discover that the Mechazoids all survived the shipyard fire and each of the robots has its own target. Leonardo, with assistance from April O'Neil, battles Mechazoid 01. Leo Nardo Stands Alone
Raphael is captured by the Purple Dragons and taken to the Gently Plucked Chicken Company. Before the gang can sell the mutant turtle, Mechazoid 02 bursts into the building. Raph Thinks It Through
Michelangelo and Rod escape the shipyards in a garbage truck, but are pursued by Mechazoid 03. Unfortunately for Rod, the Mechazoid has decided that he is also a mutant, which is actually something the human wishes for. Mikey Does the Right Thing
After Donatello is taken into custody by two subway police officers, Mechazoid 04 breaks into the precinct. A mad chase begins on a moving subway train and the lives of the human passengers are placed in danger. Donnie's quick thinking saves the day and disables the robot - but he has an idea for that, too. Donnie Hangs Tough
The Turtles all finally reunite at the Bishop Robotics factory, where they must battle Bishop herself, who is inside her XS-1 exosuit. Just as they think they can handle her, Mechazoids 01, 02, and 03 arrive, having repaired themselves with new parts. It isn't long before the Mechazoids override their own programming and attack Bishop. The Turtles rescue her, but when they are about to lose to the Mechazoids, Mechazoid 04 arrives and saves them. Mikey dubs it "Metalhead" and Donnie brags that he just changed one word of Bishop's code, from "destroy" to "protect". This causes the Mechazoids to decide all lifeforms are dangerous and must be destroyed. Just as Leo taunts them that they are outnumbered, the Mechazoids activate the factory and brings numerous other Mechazoids online. It is only after creating an EMP device and activating it high above the city, are the Turtles, with Bishop's help, able to fully defeat all of the Mechazoids. Night of the Mechazoids
