Mechazoid 04 is a bipedal, self-repairing artificial intelligence robot created by Dr. Josefina Bishop, who is later reprogrammed by Donatello and renamed as Metalhead by Michelangelo. Mechazoid 04 appears in Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
History[]
Dr. Josefina Bishop had a sister named Elena who was born without legs and she herself has no left arm. Having built her sister a pair of legs and herself a prosthetic arm, Bishop set about creating artificially intelligent robots, which she calls "Mechazoids". To fund her company, Bishop Robotics, Bishop created a presentation for millionaire Roderick Underwood, Sr.. While her first Mechazoid, numbered 00 but which she calls "Mechazoid Alpha", demonstrated its abilities, Bishop explained to Underwood that the applications for the robots are limitless. From manufacturing to agriculture, space exploration to prosthetics - imagine a world where technology lifts humanity up, not drags them down. Underwood agreed to fund her operation, to even double what she was asking for, as long as she hired his son, Rod.
With her factory fully equipped, Bishop worked on perfecting her prototype, Mechazoid 00 and dedicated it to her sister, even placing a sticker on its chest that said "For Elena". However, only moments after completing the robot, Superfly, in his doubly-mutated form, stomped through the roof of the factory. As the other foot comes down, Mechazoid Alpha tells Dr. Bishop that she is in danger. The robot races towards her, even though Bishop shouts "No, don't!". Mechazoid Alpha shoves her out of the way and is crushed. An enraged Bishop's entire world view is changed in that moment. Instead of dedicating her life to building robots to aid humanity, she chooses to create robots that will wipe out all mutants. Bishop Makes Her Move
After the Turtles are ambushed by Bishop and her Mechazoids, the brothers become separated. Donatello soon finds that he is still being pursued by Mechazoid 04, who has locked onto him. Donnie Hangs Tough
Having previously defeated Mechazoid 04, Donnie takes some time not only reprogramming the robot, but also changing its appearance. With a new code giving it the primary function of protecting all mutants, the newly dubbed "Metalhead" comes to the Turtles rescue and battles Mechazoids alongside them. Night of the Mechazoids
