Mechaturtle (also erroneously spelled as Mecaturtle in the manual and Mekaturtle in Nintendo Power) is the third boss of the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles console/PC game. It is fought on a rooftop, where Master Splinter is being held captive. The Mechaturtle's initial appearance is that of a blue-green, purple, or blue skinned Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle with a tan or green headband and joint pads. It wields a sword similar to Leonardo's, although it does not do actual damage, presumably due to incomplete programming. Upon this form's defeat, it reveals its true appearance; a vaguely turtle-esque automaton that fights with a blade, gun, and missiles. Destroying this form defeats it once and for all, and effectively, Splinter is freed.

Behind the scenes

  • Mechaturtle's flesh is blue and his headband and joint pads are green, in the PC version.
  • Mechaturtle's flesh is purple and his headband and joint pads are green, in the Amiga version.
  • In the Atari ST version he starts out in his robot form.
  • His first form is often confused for Slash, while his second is confused for Metalhead
  • Although unconfirmed, it is possible that the "Fake Bro." seen as a mirror match in the SNES version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (which has a different palette from the Turtles' 1P and 2P colors) may actually be Mechaturtle.
  • In the instruction manual of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time, Metalhead is listed as Mechaturtle, despite his name being correctly identified in the game itself. In TMNT: Mutant Melee, the practice dummy Turtlebots are called Mechaturtles.
