Maine is one of the federated states of the United States, and geographically the largest and northernmost state of the region of New England. Maine is the birthplace of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman.

During Volume 4 of the TMNT comics, when Michelangelo is employed as an Utrom-licensed guide for alien tourists, he unwisely convinces the Styracodon Regenta Seri to abandon her entourage of bodyguards and tour the Maine coast with him, where they sample its local cuisine and visit its beaches. It is on one of these beaches that Mikey and Seri have a one-night stand of unprotected sex that results in Seri conceiving and laying a clutch of eggs on the beach by the next morning. Mikey hikes into a nearby town to buy a cooler to safely carry the eggs off the beach, but he returns only to find that Seri's bodyguards have caught up with her. The bodyguards attack and subdue Michelangelo before secretly smuggling him unconscious off-planet when Seri returns home.
