Some TMNT stuff really isn't for little kids. |
Lola Cruz is a human journalist appearing first in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #109 by IDW Publishing.
In the story, Ms. Cruz snuck past quarantine into Mutant Town and approached Michelangelo and Lita on the street in front of Splinter Dōjō, announcing that she was working on a story about Mutant Town. Mikey was initially enthusiastic for an opportunity to portray a more humanizing side of a community that some other human media figures had regarded with fear and suspicion. But Ms. Cruz's indelicate barrage of invasive questions started to make him uneasy. After she tried to speak to Lita directly, Mikey sensed Lita's discomfort and he abruptly broke off the interview, retreating with the younger turtle back inside the dōjō. Not once had Ms. Cruz even asked either turtle their names.
Mikey's experiences both with the judgmental human media on television and the abrasive journalist on the street convinced him that Mutant Town would have to take their own responsibility communicating with the world, and he convinced Donatello to help him set up a pirate radio station.
While talking to her mother over the phone about not having a workable lead to the Mutant Town story, Oroku Saki sneaks into her office and turns the radio to Michelangelo's broadcast about Sally Pride's mayoral rally, giving her the idea on how to follow up. TMNT #118 She returns to Mutant Town and encounters Lita and the weasels, apologizing to Lita for being abrasive before and asking for directions to the dōjō. Before she can get an answer, she is spotted by two Mutanimal enforcers, and although they are taken out by the weasels, Night and Stone follow after them, tranquilizing the children. Night then shoots Lola, leaving her bleeding on the sidewalk. TMNT #119
