"Legend of the 5 Dragons" is the third episode of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles so-called "Lost 5th Season", which takes place after Season 4 of the series, but aired after its sequel Fast Forward.

As punishment for letting the cask be taken by the Acolytes, the Foot Mystics poised to execute a Kappa-Tengu.

In this episode there is no voice introduction. However there is an introduction of what happens to the Kappa Tengu after the second lost episode. It shows the five evil mystics angry at their failure to protect the cask from the turtles and the other acolytes. In their anger, the mystics kill the Kappa Tengu and a flash blocks the camera, making us wonder what happens.

Plot Synopsis

The Turtles have trouble sleeping after the revelation in the previous episode, while Splinter and Ancient One meditate about what will become. Splinter says that he can't let the Tribunal's judgement cost him his family. He then reveals the reason for his dislike of the Ninja Tribunal. Years ago, when his master, the guardian Hamato Yoshi, came to ask Tribunals aid against the Utrom Shredder, the Tribunal refused, and as a result, Yoshi was eventually slain by the Utrom Shredder. Splinter thinks that had the Tribunal aided Yoshi, he might still be alive.

The Turtles are confused about the Shredder, as they already defeated one Shredder, and now another Shredder is returning. Splinter and Ancient One begin telling the story of the original Shredder.

The Tribunal received their armor in 300 A.D.

Shredder was actually a Tengu who wanted to control Earth in 300 AD. The Emperor of Japan summoned five great warriors (in what appears to be a homage to Power Rangers or Super Sentai or Kamen Rider). The warriors were the current members of the Ninja Tribunal, and Oroku Saki. As the warriors went to battle against the Tengu Shredder, Saki was able to destroy him. But before he struck the final blow, the Tengu communed with him in spirit and offered him great power, with which he could rule the world and gain everything he ever wanted. Saki accepted the offer, and thus became the host for the Shredder, assuming the Tengu's identity.

As Shredder used his dark powers to become the most feared warlord in Japan, the Tribunal began to study mystical knowledge in order to defeat him for good. When they were ready, they assaulted Shredder's stronghold, and in an epic battle where all five transformed into their dragon avatars, the Tribunal eventually defeated the Shredder. But despite their victory, he could not be destroyed. Thus, the only thing they could do, was to seal him away by separating three Shredder artifacts: his body, helmet and gauntlet. They encased his body in a sarcophagus, with Shredder swearing that one day he will return.

For the next seventeen centuries, the Tribunal have been guarding the artifacts and at times trained other students to aid them. Now knowing the truth, the Turtles realize that the Utrom Shredder was only a pretender who used the name of the original Shredder to gain respect.
