Lawrence "Larry" McKinney was a criminal escaping from transit security in 1998 in a Times Square subway when he shot Kate Ocho, who fell into the path of a subway train. She was standing right next to her husband Cha, who vowed revenge on his wife's death. When the case went cold the following year, Cha quit the police force in anger and dedicated the next two years to attempting to find McKinney. With Leonardo's help, they tracked him down to St. Thomas Church - the very church where Kate and Cha were married, where he had been sleeping. McKinney begged for mercy and told Cha that the day had haunted him ever since, and Leonardo warned Cha not to kill him as well. Cha cut off McKinney's hand and then slayed him.
