Appearing in Karai's Path, part 1[]
Characters[]
- Bludgeon
- Hayashi Toru (debut)
- Koya
- Natsu (debut)
- Oroku Karai
- Toshiro
Summary[]
Karai is shot in the shoulder by a tattooed young woman named Natsu, who mocks her before driving away. Karai kicks off her shoes and chases Natsu's motorcycle through Tokyo's traffic, knocking her to the ground and engaging her in a vicious street fight. After being knocked down by Karai, Natsu reveals that a yakuza war is going on, and Karai happened to be in front of a target. She escapes on the back of a truck.
At Karai's penthouse, Toshiro is trying to teach Koya how to fight without her flight feathers, but Koya is raging about how she and Bludgeon are "useless" with their disabilities. Toshiro demonstrates that lack of flight or sight are not boundaries to fighting, and Bludgeon reveals that he has regained the ability to sense things around himself even without his eyes. Karai comes home and passes out from blood loss. She wakes up in bed and finds Toshiro tending to her, but immediately puts on her ninja clothing and sets out to find Natsu.
Natsu is dining with her grandfather Hayashi Toru, a yakuza boss who recognizes Karai's name. Karai gets the drop on them and demands satisfaction for the insults of earlier, and Toru apologizes for his granddaughter's brashness. An outraged Natsu charges at Karai, but nearly ends up beheaded for it.
Toru asks Karai to spare his granddaughter's life, offering a "mutually-beneficial arrangement" in exchange for her life. Karai initially rejects the offer, but seeing herself surrounded by armed guards, she asks what Toru wants. He responds, "... I want a legend."
