The Joker is a serial killer with a clown-like appearance, who is the best-known claimant to the title of Batman's arch-nemesis.
The Joker was one of several super villain inmates incarcerated in Gotham's infamous Arkham Asylum who was exposed to mutagen as part of a plot by the Shredder and Ra's al Ghul to take control of the city with a mutant army. The Joker was mutated into a cobra, increasing his strength and speed. Due to his proclivity for deadly poisons the aspect of his mutation that excited the Joker the most was a set of fangs with a potentially deadly venom.
