The Joker is a serial killer with a clown-like appearance, who is the best-known claimant to the title of Batman's arch-nemesis.
The Joker was one of several super villain inmates incarcerated in Gotham City's infamous Arkham Asylum who was exposed to mutagen as part of a plot by the Shredder and Ra's al Ghul to take control of the city with a mutant army. The Joker was mutated into a cobra, increasing his strength and speed. Due to his proclivity for deadly poisons the aspect of his mutation that excited the Joker the most was a set of fangs with a potentially deadly venom.
After Batman was frozen in place by Mr. Freeze, Shredder stated that he intended to leave Batman at the Joker's mercy. However, none of them noticed Raphael approaching Batman until he had knocked the Joker aside.
During the final battle, he was among the combatants whom Splinter fought, and was defeated. It was later confirmed that he would revert back to normal in a week's time.
