"It Came from Beneath the Sewers" is an episode of the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon series. It is the second episode of season 2 (1988). This episode was written by Larry Parr. It originally aired on October 15, 1988. It is available on DVD in the box set released on April 26, 2005.

Plot Summary

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and April O'Neil use the "Crystal Converger" as they are driving around in the Turtle Van in search for the three Fragments of the Eye of Sarnath.

Meanwhile in the Technodrome, which is located in Dimension X, Krang and Shredder use the high tech equipment inside to locate the Fragment just outside New York City, near where a travelling carnival show has arrived.

The Crystal Converger has led the Turtles and April to the same carnival, but before they can find the Fragment, it's found by two small boys. While April unsuccessfully tries to buy it from them for three dollars, the Turtles are mistaken for performers and find themselves entertaining an audience, earning enough money to buy the Fragment from the small boys. But just then, Shredder and Baxter Stockman arrives and steals the fragment from the boys.

Back at their hideout, Shredder and Baxter Stockman discover another aspect of the fragment's power: as the crystal makes contact with residue from Dimension X on Shredder's boot, the crystal is able to create a mutating spore. Shredder believes that this will enable him to obtain the other two Fragments and defeat the Turtles.

Later in the sewers, the Turtles tell Splinter how they lost the Fragment to Shredder. Suddenly, a giant plant breaks the wall and attacks the Turtles. The Turtles defeat the plant, which retreats deeper into the sewers. The Turtles are convinced that the plant originates from Dimension X.

Mikey probably never heard the end of this.

At April's apartment, April and Irma are drinking coffee when someone knocks on the door. When April looks out, she finds a note containing only an address, signed "the TMNT." April goes alone to the address, which turns out to be an empty warehouse. Shredder, who had set the trap, captures April, ties her to a chair and gags her with a cloth, and uses her Turtle Com to contact the Turtles. He dares them to rescue April. The Turtles, disguised as pizza delivery boys, arrive at the warehouse. When Shredder and Baxter Stockman refuse to open the door, the Turtles throw pizzas at them until they run away. As the Turtles are untying April, a TV in the warehouse shows breaking news: a giant plant is destroying the city. As the plant escapes its way down into the sewer system, the Turtles' home, Splinter tells the Turtles to "start at the root of the problem." The Turtles follow the tracks from the plant, and Michelangelo is dressed as a female plant decoy to distract the giant plant, as the other Turtles attack it. Leonardo recalls Splinters word, and uses his katana swords to attack the "root of the plant", causing it do die.

Quotes

Shredder: Good catch, Baxter!

Baxter: You must admit, I do have soft hands.

- Somewhere off-screen, somebody's gay-dar has just gone off.

Shredder: A mutant plant! The perfect way to flush out those mutant turtles!

- One of Shredder's better plans?

Shredder: (hearing knock at door) Go see who that is!

Baxter: (looking through window in door to see the Turtles dressed in pizza delvery boy garb) It's four green pizza delivery boys.

Shredder: I don't remember ordering any pizzas. Especially green ones!

Raphael: (busting through door) Well you're gettin' em whether you want 'em or not!!!

(Baxter sneaks up behind Raphael before Michaelangelo splatters him with a pizza)

Baxter:I... I can't see!

Michelangelo: Well like, that was the plan dude!

- One of the Turtles better plans.
Shredder: It will take more than a pizza with extra olives to stop me!!
